Blow'em up

Seems that some staions are in need of a "facelift" a lil radio botox if you will. What stations should be blown up and start fresh ?

Say for example the Buzz 100.7 . Blow'em up -
may be they could go K u N TrY ??? And if a station does "flip" wouldn't that mean somewhere there must be a new "server" or computer system waiting and ready to be installed with the new programming on it ??? Anyone care to answer this ?

Any other ideas ???

Blow up the Buzz? Hmmmm... they have a mid-day, afternoon, and evening show that are all kicking major ass in the Male demos... and you think Entercom should blow it up? As soon as they replace their morning show (which should be happening any time now)they'll be the "guy" station to beat in town. I'm not a fan of KQBZ, but as a PD, you don't mess with success... idiot.

Stations I think that need a makeover:

Every AM religious station. Too many of them hogging up precious bandwith and hardly anyone listens.

KWJZ: Too yuppie, Too Bellevue, Too many saxophones. Should really be sounding like CKCL (104.9 Clear FM) Vancouver. "One Evening" Feist, Diana Krall's cover of "The Look Of Love" is another cool track that's criminally missing on 98.9. I used to listen to 98.9, and still punch it in when "Cigaro" System Of A Down from KFNK begins to flail on "Fallen" Sarah McLachlan from Clear FM just north of Marysville on I-5. but the difference between KWJZ and Clear FM is striking. Clear FM sounds brighter and younger-not an easy thing to do with Michael Buble cuts in the playlist, while KWJZ sounds very bland and middle of the road by comparison.

And I wish KWJZ would stop calling it "jazz". Just "smooth" is a better definition.....

KAFE: Perhaps the DULLEST AC on the radio, predictable playlist, does a "listen at work" station really have to sound so tedious?

As for a makeover, did anyone hear B.J. Shea discuss his interview in Bellingham with the soft rock KAFE? I spent some time wondering if he was being truthful about interviewing there, for why would he admit to an interview with "the chick station" as he described it. He had to be honest, as the move would not have been a step up. He did indicate that all of the Bellingham stations were owned by the same person, and there is no real incentive for competition between the stations. I guess the interviewer must have seen that his ratings at The Buzz were good enough for an interview, without researching his show and how it is a mirror opposite from KAFE.

Now that would have been a facelift!

Correct. About hardly anyone listening to AM.

And KWJZ has much more ratings than CKCL. Guess the people in Seattle and Vancouver don't agree with your viewpoints.

....and that must make me a disagreeable person overall, I know. But CKCL still gets a frequently pressed button on my radios. I don't care how big or small the ratings are, as long as they're doing something right.

For me and a LOT more listeners this side of the border than you might think, bigger variety, less Bellevue yuppieness, fewer saxophones, no "jazz" references. Even the CanCon sounds good...

CKCL is doing something right.....

I still wish that any of the "smooth jazz" stations would actually play some real jazz, there's plenty of jazz that isn't over the top like some Miles Davis can sometimes be, guys like Stan Kenton & some Art Blakey for example would definitely fall into that category.

Unbelievable. Actually, I shouldn't be surprised coming from this board.

KWJZ was third 12+ in the Winter Book, and a serious player in 25 to 54 breakouts -- and according to some here, they're all broken and need to fix it.

Hate to shatter your egos, but just because they don't fit your personal tastes doesn't mean they need fixing. What they play is not my personal cup of tea, but with the ratings they've consistently been having, they're clearly doing something the Seattle audience likes.

Look, I personally despise hip-hop and techno...to my ears it's atonal crap created by producers, not musicians. However, I don't go around trashing those who do like it because the musical experience is incredibly subjective. KWJZ can be a bit too laid back for my tastes at times but the musicians who create it are mostly fantastic players...if you don't believe me, go see them play live sometime. As a KWJZ listener who cares deeply about music, I suggest you not project your own musical tastes onto everyone else.

Um, jackhole ?

Those were his interviews BEFORE coming to the Buzz in November of 1999.
