Blowtorch 5~Eighty Question

I moved away from Tucson in 1960 but remember KTKT's rivalry being KAIR. I don't remember KIKX at all before moving but it was already country (to the best of my knowledge) when I returned in 1968.

KTKT and KAIR were indeed top 40 rivals in the (late?) '50s.

The direct bloodline predecessor to KIKX was daytimer KFIF 1550
which, after an earlier (1962?) stab at top 40, came back as such
in 1965, then morphed into KIKX in late spring 1967.

KIKX competed with KTKT in the top 40 arena until May 1969 at
which time they (KIKX) flipped to MOR. ???

IIRC, that was when John Mack Flanagan crossed the street
to KTKT.

After a year or two of that nonsense, it was back to some form
of rock--top 40, AOR, oldies--on KIKX during a span of several
years. Anyone remember PM driver Dave Brooks? Better yet,
anyone remember the TM Phase II jingle package used on-air
around 1972?

Then came the kidnapping stunt.

I can't put a precise date range on "KIKX Country" but some of
the previous posts have probably ballparked it correctly.
