Blu 102.9 coming to Albuquerque! Bye Bye KHFM.

Hutton's Blu 102.9 in Pecos will be heard in Albuquerque soon via AGM 102.9 translator. Probably will need to be changed to a FM Booster since its on the same frequency. Not sure what happens to the KHFM listeners who rely on the 102.9 translator.

Although a booster can only be on the same channel as the main station, one can only operate within the main station's primary signal contour. So, 102.9 will still be a translator as it's outside KLBU's primary signal contour.

As for those who rely on KHFM's 102.9 translator, there probably aren't many, if any at all. 95.5's citygrade signal covers 100% of 102.9's. Also, 95.5 recently installed a new transmitter, which should help. According to their website, the previous transmitter was at least 20 years old and had seen better days.

oh boy! reember how the tree hugger radio free santa fe did in abq :'(

Well, the rumor has been that Hutton would like to get KBAC back on in Albuquerque. I was surprised to hear this news that KLBU would be on the 102.9 translator. I figured he'd try to get KBAC on first. Given the location of the translator at Sandia Peak, I'd have to think they'd be able to find a way to get it to broadcast KBAC even with the KBNM translator right in town.

I don't get this move at all. KLBU (as it has been) has hardly made a dent in Santa Fe as it is. Would be hard to pull in KBAC on Sandia Peak with K251AU at transmitting on the same frequency at the same site. FCC rules prohibit microwave to Sandia for KBAC; only possible solution would be an intermediate translator (for KBAC) that could be received cleanly at the 102.9 translator site on Sandia.

But again, KBAC is so Santa Fe too that it would have little impact in Albuquerque.

How will they pick-up 102.9 off the air and then retransmit that on 102.9?

LOL. I didn't think of that; and its a great question. KLBU's studio-to-transmitter link microwave is a 2-hop system. It leaves the studio
in Santa Fe - goes to Sandia - and then back down to Pecos. My guess is they'll snatch the signal off the first hop of the STL on Sandia Peak and put it on 102.9 there.

Legal? Don't think so. They're still using a microwave signal to feed an out-of-contour translator and thats contrary to FCC rules and regs. Any commercial translator thats beyond the regular 60dbu coverage contour its main station must be fed off-air.

ABQ has always been a hotbed of translator transgression.

Remember the KBAC to 95.9 translator?

What station does the 100.9 translator rebroadcast?
Radio Locator says KBAC, but I doubt that.

Just The Fax...(1 post?) ...where did you get your information?

According to my sources, there are no plans to extend KLBU into Albuquerque at this time.
I would defer to radiosantafe..why would a niche format be inserted into
Albuquerque? Hutton arrogance? This format is niche at best. It probably won't result in any sales increase for the bottomline, and the translator arrangement could raise some red flags for the not always diligent FCC.
Scratching head on this one!

Have there been any tweaks to the KLBU Chill format in the last three months? They yanked their webcast in early September, so those of us outside NM haven't heard it recently.

The 102.9 translator seemed to have a solid signal in ABQ when I was there in late July. I could also hear it with a good signal as far east as Moriarty.

Agreed, BLU does not need to be discussed here. However, if Hutton still has his mind set on building his own little radio empire, Boy GM needs to maximize what he's got in Santa Fe and quit worrying about getting back in the ABQ market to compete against his former place of employment, AGM. Clean up your own house first Mr. Hutton!

And besides, I don't think that AGM would sell off their 102.9 translator. I'll bet they make too much money off of it as a fill-in for KHFM. Enough said, let's end this thread.

LA LAW, I love it....The Boy GM is now OWNER GM. I can't remember the last time anyone in Albuquerque went on to own his own radio stations. I think he's doing pretty well. But hey, I'm sure you're off to a super successful radio career yourself. You're probably a part time radio dude, most likely board opping somewhere lame. Hey, you're probably close to getting a full time weekend gig and you have a huge career in front of you! What a joke!

[EDIT] Larry and KABG his brainchild?
Please :D

[EDIT-inflammatory]

CUE, get a clue. Everyone can go buy radio stations....yeah right! He must of whacked you at somepoint...I would agree however, the Larry thing was a bomb but I give him credit for trying. I think most people thought Larry would work....KKOB was a 9 1/2 share pre KAGM, now a 7.1....some damage was done. But enough of this SF hippy stuff, move on!

Well said Frank E. Cue, you are certainly entitled to your opinion. However you clearly have no class or vocabulary and are in violation of Radio-Info's terms of service. I will gladly report your comments as defamatory and suggest you leave your profanity at home as it impresses no one.

welcome to the board Scott
Try is not good enough when your the leader
I have seen some of these GM's around the country forget they are dealing with people's lifes and things they have worked very hard for just thrown away as they "Try" to do good? things. Buy a clue yall, life is tough and the weak will keep working for these people.

Cue, we are all sorry Mr. Hutton had to whack you, but that's just the biz, welcome to the ever changing world in radio. I worked for Hutton, he is one of the best leaders in radio, as evident by the people he has recruited, trained promoted and helped lead to better careers. Let's not start throwing names because believe me the list is very long and distinguished. Just move on because you won't win this one. Go back to your little hole, you are just bitter and everyone reading this board knows it. He is a leader, an owner and a winner and he still in his 30's. He's done more, experienced more and is on a better track than anyone in the state his age. Give it up.
