Blu 102.9...Gone???

The KLBU webstream has been down for several days now. Since a format flip had been speculated for this month, can someone in the Santa Fe area let us know what, if anything 102.9 is running there?

The main website is still there, but hasn't been updated in ages. Usually there would be a redirect to a new site if a format change had taken place, so not sure what's going on (I'm in Houston.)

I just spoke with a person at Hutton Broadcasting, KLBU's new owners. It looks like the Chill format will stay, but it will be "tweaked" somewhat. The webcast is no longer available. They are looking at streaming again, but webcasting isn't likely to start again over the next two months.

I see they just changed the website today to remove the streaming links.

I suppose the new owner is still undecided about forking over internet rights fees. It was interesting that the former webstream carried all the on-air commercial breaks, without covering them with PSA's or music filler as most other stations do. Betcha that changes if and when streaming returns.

Oh, well...on to Groovera or SomaFM.

I'm guessing that the station's entire commercial inventory was locally produced. The streaming of commercials only becomes an issue when AFTRA talent appears on the spots....and those come from agencies...who typically only buy radio stations with ratings....

KLBU-FM 102.9 MHz is still on and broadcasting locally. The format is slightly wider with vocal "soft R&B" and some ambient add to the lineup. I was hoping they would expand to include a more wide-awake sound but they still seem to be targeting the local valium demographic. These people have a very specific idea of what people want to hear, and I wish them good luck.

If in face Hutton does get control of the station, that would be bad news, considering the ineptitude of their programming on other stations.

I find it curious that the Chill format found a home in Santa Fe.
You might think it would have more success in more cutting edge cities like NY or LA although perhaps with the money at stake with stations in the 2 biggest markets no one would be willing to chance a niche format.
WQCD, New York's smooth jazz outlet tried a mixed chill/sj format several years back. They deemed it a failed effort but the reasons for it's demize were poor programing and too much of an ecletic mix of r&b/sj and chill.
The way they did it just didn't mix well. I gave them credit for trying some niche programming though.
It was nice to see some programmers thinking outside the box.
It is also nice to see how many small markets have niche formats. Something I'm sure all the top market listeners envy.

I was a Blu 102.9 internet listener--everyday. Unfortunately, I can't find the same chill format anywhere else. And apparently internet audience holds no sway with respect to listership intererests. No voice...only ears

Try Groovera.com I am enjoying the jetcity stream as much as I enjoyed BLU 102.

All three streams at www.groovera.com are quite good. Jet City seems to be the most like Blu. Ambient Popsicle is somewhat more upbeat with more vocals. Low Mercury is more instrumental and relaxing.

Also try www.somafm.com , particularly the Space Station Soma, Drone Zone, Beat Blender, and Groove Salad streams. You'll want to sample each for a while to see which best suits your taste.

Another option is www.slacker.com which has both "Chill" and "Alternative Chill" streams. And they seem to have dropped their registration requirement; at least it didn't request any when I checked today.

Blu's stream is only gone temporarily. From what I understand, the sale to Hutton has not been finalized yet, and the old parent company does not want to keep paying for the streaming. Hutton has said publicly that they want to keep the stream, but are looking at options for accomplishing it now.
