First the G-mail...that was kind of funny. Now, get this....Tonight was the night! The BIG night to honor a 16 year old, big ass, funny as hell morning show. "TomO and Mr. Mike's Sweet Sixteen". The four bands showed to play the BIG show. Someone forgot to book the SOUND SYSTEM!! WOW!

Happy 16th Tom and Mike!

i tell ya, Blueberry could have just left things alone and they would have been liked A TRILLION TIMES better

in fact, add new things..... to their stations......

who really knows what their going to do for that new 101.1 Machias

can you say WEEI for Machias?
NO!

NO![/size]

any other ideas? (other than top 40 because that's already basically covered by WCRQ 102.9)

There's no way an economically depleted washington/hancock county can support 2 hot AC/top 40 type stations (they couldn't anyway with the sparse population)

Speaking of sparse population, 101.1 (the former WBEO in question) is a full B at 50kw, with half its signal out over the water. So maybe an aquatic type format? :p

geez, i hope WEEI DOESN'T come to Ellsworth/Machias

I really don't know what they are going to do with that 101.1. They have the AC (WNSX), WCRQ for Top40 (and no, i never thought of them doing Top40 mainedude2007 because I knew about CRQ :D) maybe a rock format?

I'm thinking more oldies/classic hits more than anything. It would be cool to see an Urban contemporary type station there, that would be interesting to hear in Maine.

But please, do us all a favor Blueberry, no SPORTS!

An Urban? In Maine? You have a better chance of hitting the lottery twice, my friend.
You need to start learning that radio is a business. Broadcasting means exactly that.
Even Boston can't seem to support one.

I said Urban Contemporary not Hip-Hop Urban

i don't think of the radio as a business, NHRadio, of course it is, but why think like that.
and it was a wild guess.

Holy.

why not? There's no all sports station in the market. And for classic hits/oldies you have WQDY/WALZ with their depth, but I could see a more mainstream classic rock/classic hits format, but you have 95.7 (no idea what the signal is like as you get further Downeast, but maybe a straightforward 50's through 70's oldies station would work.

Country came across my mind, but I have no idea how 99.1 WLKE's signal is down towards Calais/Machias. So that could be a possibility.

Urban AC is an interesting idea, but business-wise it wouldn't get any traction with advertisers.

To understand the radio business you have to think like that. You can't be successful any other way.
Otherwise you'll sound....naiive.

i'm looking at the WLKE coverage map, and WLKE pretty much covers all the way through Machias, so I don't know if Country will happen.

I was also thinking about "Classic Country", though please, spare us all. I can't even stand listening to the new Monticello's WBCQ, it doesn't SOUND local, but they say it is according to the HIGH-TECH website :D

But back to the 101.1, True, they don't have sports, but wouldn't that, again, by kind of cheap and unfair? Blueberry has already turned 2 of their stations to a sports, why this one? They probably can pick up WEEI from Boston thanks to being that close to water.

WLKE 99.1 blasts thru downeast Maine, practically to the Canadian Border; their transmitter is in Gouldsboro, 20 miles east of Bar Harbor, just off Routes 1 and 186, and atop a hill, giving them an easy 500 feet above sea level.

Another country format would never work downeast, not with "The Tide" 98.1 CHTD Saint Stephen, NB. I'm not much of a country fan, but I do enjoy listening to "The Tide" on occasion, a much wider variety of country, especially with Canadian artists. and BTW they come in quite nicely as far west as Bar Harbor, The Tide transmits from a high bluff, just north of Saint Andrews NB overlooking the mouth of the Saint Croix River right opposite Eastport Maine. Also Bangor's "Q-106" WQCB puts a half decent signal down-east with their 100,000 watts.

BTW Don't hold your breath waiting for 101.1 Machias to come on air. Last time I drove by their proposed tansmitter site, a couple weeks ago, which is a huge cell phone tower along Route 1 in Jonesboro, No activity noted. Just the cell phone antennas, and the VHF antennas for NOAA Marine-Weather Radio. Nothing else.

And don't forget 115-watt WRMO 93.7 Milbridge, they are a great mix of AC/Oldies and Standards. Just wish they would get out more than 10 miles! They will probably (hopefully) upgrade long before 101.1 sees air.

The bottom line down here though is the economy...it stinks, and can't support much more activity on the airwaves.

Joe:

Sorry about your grief… I recently had to put down a dear friend so I know what you are going through. I guess the only other choice we have is not to love anything… And that would be much worse then grief.

Thanks for the information, rjoc, i do wish WRMO would boost their power, they must not reach anyone with what they have, and maybe expand; get some DJ's in there maybe so it doesn't sound all taped.

Your right, I don't see that 101.1 coming any time soon, it's been on a CP it seems forever, i don't expect it to have calls or broadcast any time soon, at least another year. I hope the format is worth-while though!

Sorry to hear about your pooch, Joe. While I'm normally an acerbic, insensitive prick, I do have a soft spot for dogs. Best thing you can do under the circumstances is get another one (after a suitable albeit brief period of mourning). There are plenty of great dogs out there in need of loving homes; and while a new dog will never surplant the lost one in your heart, you'll be amazed at how fast the void will be filled. I'm looking at the box that contains the earthly remains of our lost Fergus, in his time one of the best dogs on the planet. Were it not for his untimely demise, we never would have met the two labbies who now share our home. I'll always feel a lump in my throat when I recall our loss, hell, losses; but life is somehow brighter with a happy dog or two in it.

Jesus, I can be such an old drama queen!

Sorry to hear it, Joe. Google 'Rainbow Bridge'. It will help with your grief.

Joe - So sorry to hear about your buddy. Take heart - I lost my dog two years ago - and was blessed about 4 months later with another puppy who has been an even more of a friend - in so many ways! I feel your pain and know you'll find another little buddy who will never replace Grover - but will become ever so fullfilling! - KimShot
