Blue-Magic News from the 8th floor

Kris Van Dyke offered substantial pay cut but chooses to render two week notice.

Jerry Broadway brought on board to skipper 95.5 WTVY

That's one Clear Channel reject gone from the programming department of Blue-Tragic, now there's just one more to go. My sources tell me that the main reason that Stephano left the station that he grew up listening to is because he hated Kris Van Dyke and Aaron Tyler. I wonder if he's smiling this morning now that one of them is gone and the other is surely not too far behind?

I wonder if this move was really all about money or if Blue-Tragic is having buyer's remorse over bringing Julie to WKMX and the monstrosity that the new morning show is turning out to be? Kris played all of his magic tricks to get her to cross the street and a month later he's out the door? Does that strike anybody else as curious?

Oh and could WKMX really sound any worse? The music over the last three months has been all over the road! They claim to play "all the hits," but let's examine that claim for a minute. Here are hits that they are not playing and their Mediabase chart position:

14. Britney Spears "3"
18. Iyaz "Replay"
27. David Guetta (feat Akon) "Sexy Chick"
29. Pitbull "Hotel Room Service"
32. Jesse McCartney "Body Language"
33. Ester Dean "Drop It Low"
34. Fabolous (feat The-Dream) "Throw It in the Bag"
35. Leona Lewis "Happy"
37. Priscilla Renea "Dollhouse"
38. LMFAO "La La La (On Top of the World)"
39. Push Play "Midnight Romeo"
40. Kesha "Tik Tok"

To review we have a station that calls itself a "Top 40" and they are not playing 30% of the Top 40 chart? Real nice job, Aaron Tyler. Why don't you go back and be a board op?

No Brett, most "Top 40" stations don't play the top 40 new hits anymore which may be the reason the named morphed to CHR (Contemporary Hit Radio). Most successful CHR's run around 100 songs. Total. Would you want waste one of those valuable spins on an unproven track? I wouldn't.

K~

Best of luck Jerry. Decent folks represent Bluewater. Not sure about Magic.

Ah yes, good luck KVD and welcome back Broadway. Suddenly my feeble mind is trying to play the theme from Welcome Back Cotter and On Broadway at the same time......."welcome back, welcome back welcome on broadway. They say the neon lights are bright since you hung around. And who'd a thought there dead wrong I know they are." Oh, it just got worse. A third track just began playing, "I'm so dizzy, my head is spinning".

Thank you Stewy.

I tried to impart a sense of professionalism at Magic Broadcasting. With the constant spin cycle and now new management
deploying more budget and personnel cuts, I find the situation untenable.
As Shania would say - I'm Outta Here!

I dont hate anyone. KVD I trusted in the begining. I put my hopes in him to get us away from the Clear Channel mentality that is sooo obvoiusly working with them. But he proved to be what he is a corperate radio guy. But i did learn some valuabel lessons from him. I bear him no ill will. KVD I wish you well man.
As for Aaron I dont hate him either. I dislike the way he runs things. He acts like a petulant child. I tried to work with him but all i got was reasons for why we couldnt do things and just pure and T lazyness. I pity him for what he has gotten thrown into. I did apply for the PD job and had many people rooting for me in the building but I was passed on the job because "I didnt have enough experiance in programing." But after seeing what they expected of Aaron I was glad I got passed on for the job. Being a yes man isnt in my nature.
I am happy to be where I am today. I have been welcomed with open arms by the WOOF family and the listeners. Leigh is one of the most wonderful people I have ever had the pleasure to meet and work with. Leigh I know I can be frustrating and thick at times thank you for this opportunity.

Stephano is a good guy and deserves to work for a good company. Congratulations.

Can't help it, just can't ...."Some people call the space cowboy, some call me the gangster of love", "I'm a space cowboy, I bet you didn't know about that". Thank you, I feel better now.

Back to the thread and a short sermon. We are all individuals that react differently to different stimuli. Some of us didn't react well to corporate America but some of us don't react well outside of corporate America. We should all recognize that the world and universe in which we exist was/is constructed to be ever evolving and ever changing. Change is always difficult but is the only constant that we have. We all do learn and adapt eventually though at (once again because of individualism) differing rates. One of the problems that I have had, still do, with corporate structure is the inflexibility to address change. Might does not make right, nor does exceeding arrogance. Sometimes the cycle happens quickly enough that the string comes back close enough to your position that you can feel comfortable enough to jump back on but sometimes not. Wall street took a slow growth, steady but relatively mild revenue steam industry and change the dynamics and fill the industry with people that were/are clueless about achieving success in it. Working/managing/surviving in/with a group of such diverse personalities as DJ's and sales people is unlike most any other business. A well working station is truly a mini-microcosm of our society, it's always on the edge balancing between greatness and insignificance.

You folks keep KC in your heart and in your prayers and I hope that you all have a good day.

I've wondered myself tripleass, that I have. "Cause I speak of the ..", could this be seventies speak from a touring band of: "It won't hurt, I promise", "Don't need one, I've got control", "It'll taste ...". Better stop there before I'm banished to time out. Anyway, you think I'm on the right track?

i was not aware jerry broadway took over-- rick peters continues to make good decisions-- you all may bitch about pay cuts=- but that is the state of radio--

it is never going to be 1999 again-- but thats a good thing too-- remember when you had to run your board?

nobody bitches about the scott system on saturday afternoons when you are sitting around being lazy and not working 2-7 live--

deal with it--

welcome back jer!!! I AM HAPPY FOR JERRY BROADWAY!

Well I know alot of people will disagree with me but Jerry Broadway may be what the magic cluster needs. Even though I was his competitor he was always very professional to me. He knows radio and he knows the market lets not forget Jerry has had a winning record in the Dothan market.

Mr Broadway I wish you luck sir welcome back

Well said. Radio ain't what radio was. And you can either complain about it, or adapt and overcome. I have done things in programming that I would have never even considered 6 years ago. And not bragging, but it has worked so far. Where there is a will, inspiration and determination there is a way.

Everyone on our team has embraced the changing face of radio and tried to dominate under its new parameters. I'm so proud of the people I work with for still being top notch at their craft and adapting on a weekly basis. Not knocking any other crew, but I think our little team of pros has adapted and excelled in some difficult and trying times. And we are all still here...until we are told we are no longer needed.

A good luck to Jerry. Rode the top of a lot of really high waves with him. He will do fine.
