KWNR started off 2007 by screwing up royally. No more Stunt Runt(Jeff Jay on tape isnt cuttin it!) Rob Banks at Coyote has it locked up at night. Coyote's morning show with an added Rick Kelly is picking up steam.(told you in November of last year that would happen) Worst of all, when they had a huge lead over Coyote, KWNR totally reacted to them. C ya. Buh bye. You're done! Brooks who?
Sunny isn't doing the best either. Quit hurting Party by playing their music too. Be the soft office station you were. Put Tom back in mornings. The Oasis is going to make big gains because of this. Clear Channel had it all, and screwed it up...big time!
They finally understood how a decent oldies station should sound, then they blow it up! Whoopi sucks on radio. A two person staff won't cut it. The music is SO far off the mark, and the ratings will prove it!
With CBS, I can't believe how Jack has hung on this long. They just don't get it. Let CBS' Kevin Weatherly hire a P.D. who "gets it" and doesn't just play his favorite songs. Jack in LA sounds so much better.
I am also amazed that Xtreme has hung on this long. Thanks to a good month, maybe they will last until early next year before trying something else.
Mix is doing much better. They are more familiar now. KLUC sounds a little tired musically, but not bad.
KKLZ had a good run. Eventually, they will have to stick with "The greatest hits of all time." I like that. It doesn't paint them into a corner and allows them to do fun things.(Love to see them evolve to the kick ass KRTH 101 days) That would do well here.
What to do with Star? That's one station I don't undertand at all. There's no focus. Blow it up and start over please. Sad to say they did better playing 300 tired-ass 80's songs.
I am really surprised The Point didn't totally capitalize on KKLZ's format flip. I would never have welcomed KKLZ's listeners and informed Point listeners of any format change. What if your P1's try it and like it? I would change the liners immediatelty to say "The ONLY classic rock staion." Congrats to Lotus for sticking to their guns and sandwiching KKLZ right out of the format. I give Lotus a lot of credit. Their salespeople know how to sell, and they have had the same talent for many years. They don't seem to screw many people over like most companies these days.
I can't wait for Monday's numbers. Nice thing about retirement. I get to sit and laugh at people who lack common sense. So many companies spend big money on research, then add their 2 cents in. It's about finding out what your audience wants LOCALLY(not some national corporate study) giving it to them, and never stop giving it to them. Come on radio, get a clue! You can compete with satellite...LOCALIZE, LOCALIZE, LOCALIZE!
