Blueberry swaps in Bangor

"Stereo 97, Big Country, WBGW". My first commercial job in April of '79 after reading news on WMEB at UMO. Fond memories (and an awesome signal). A lot of time has bent spent branding 104.7 as Maine's new country leader (my wife sometimes has it on the boombox in the kitchen) but this is a good move for them long term. Short term? Iffy.

How many format changes since '94? I can think of at least 4. It's been a long day; it may be a lot more than 4.

Since WYOU, as WWBX: modern rock (wasn't it something like 97X?), hot AC then Top 40 as B97, call switch to WAEI: WEEI simulcast, then sports talk from Fox

Don't forget between country WYOU and 97X they were Mix 97.1 for a couple of years with a wide variety of music (much like AM top 40) with pop, a bit of rock, a country song thrown in here and there. Plus news at the top of the hour. I listened to them a lot. This was during the '97 - '99 era.

And I was wondering why Blueberry hasn't put WABK or a clone thereof on in Bangor since they do so well with it in Augusta.

Alt rock 97X was actually before Mix. Mix was a really fun format to work, and a great staff. I wish it had been given a little more time but that's life.

Thank you True Grit for correcting me. I thought it was vice versa. That's what I get for depending on my memory. ;) You're right, I wish it had been given more time. It was still a real local station and one that is sorely needed in this area now. I remember hearing them during the famous '98 ice storm. Let's see an AI do that. ;D

We had a TON of calls during the ice storm. WVOM deservedly gets a lot of credit for staying OTA then, but we did, too. This was before the days of saving calls on CoolEdit so they were all on reel. So many wonderful memories of that week. Unfortunately, they were stored on a shelf and we never did anything with them. When the building caught on fire in April of 2000 (or maybe it was '99) they were lost.

Although I still think we could've salvaged them, and the facility, but that's a whole 'nother thread.

Question! According to that story from WABI 97.1 and 104.7 will flip. Then I read a story by Andrew Neff from the BDN about Rich Kimball's new show and it only mentions 910 a.m. Then I got the "Maine Edge" today and the same thing. Is there going to be something different on 104.7 tomorrow?

Guess time will tell.

Not sure. I have only heard Rich's promo on 97.1, and I don't think the start date is tomorrow.

From the way I read it, it's a time buy on 910 only...104.7 will stay with the mess that is FSR between 4 and 6 much the same way 620 runs Dale Duff from 4-6 and it's FM simulcast 103.1 stays on the left leaning talk
