Blueberry to flip WQSS 102.5???

Scanning the dial this morning to see who has flipped to Christmas, I discovered a couple of faithful flips of WHOM 94.9 and WKCG 101.3. Surprisingly, WEZQ 92.9 and WKSQ 94.5 in their annual Bangor battle are staying true to their formats.

You could have knocked me over though when one of my favorites WQSS 102.5 the Peak, was playing Bing Crosby and "White Christmas". Listening longer, all references to "The Peak" are gone. Now liners are just saying "WQSS-FM 102.5, Christmas on the midcoast" or other similar things.

Well, I'm sure country is out...with sister 103.3. What about bringing sports to the FM side from 1450? I dunno, your guess is as good as mine.

Have a great week.

I'll throw something out there (again)

AC

There were rumors 101.3 WKCG was going to flip to talk.....so if that rumor is true (and with WQSS playing more 90's AC acts like 10,000 Maniacs, etc.) I could see 102.5 going AC with 101.3 going talk

I could see 102.5 as AC very easily. In it's previous incarnation as Coast 102.5 they were a "full service" AC that served the area very well. I'm sure full service has gone the way of the Oldsmobile though. Still, one can reminisce. The big question though is will they be a CHR and will they pitch? ;D

The problem with WQSS is that is lost its local, and loyal, audience on the midcoast. When the studio was on Elm Street in Camden the station had a genuinely local feel; however, since it has been relocated to Augusta (I presume), it would not do justice to the community it claims to support...Also with other soft or adult AC stations with strong signals in the area, that may not be competitive...I think that, unfortunately, Frank and the "Classic Hits" has surplanted the AC needs for the area.

I think that what may be the most viable option in the land of Classic Hits and Classic Country would be an hybrid more AOR format - adult top 40, or Hot AC, or even "variety hits" - that is certainly something that would work in the short-term until the market shakes itself out....keep people from channel surfing as much...

It worked for WWMP for a couple of years in Burlington. I was on the team that helped flip that station. When I moved back to the midcoast area, I immediately thought that it was the direction that WQSS should head it. However, as much as it needs to be a musical reimaging - there also needs to be a heavy focus on being a local station - something that FRANK and the others just aren't able to deliver.
