BMP blows up Austin this morning

Rumor is BMP SA is next

Second rumor is 105.9 Austin from CC to Liberman to match the recent launch of Liberman's TV Net in Austin.

That rumor about Liberman taking 105.9 has been bouncing around awhile. One thing is for sure, some things are changing in Austin in the next few weeks. I also bet The River does Christmas Music and comes out of it into something new after the new year.

Border Media Moves In Austin; Air Staffs Exit

ALL ACCESS has learned that BORDER MEDIA PARTNERS is about to make some big moves in AUSTIN. Word is that Regional Mexican KHHL (98.9 LA LEY) and Spanish Contemporary simulcast KXXS (DIGITAL 92.5)/KXBT (DIGITAL 104.9) are about to spin the format wheel.

Where will the format wheel land? Speculation is that KXBT/KXBT will go ESPN, KKHL will go Oldies.

And, ALL ACCESS has learned that Dir./Programming JOSH VILLA and the air staffs of both stations are also out as of SUNDAY (11/01). Reach JOSH at [email protected] or (602) 803-2750.

Liberman just sold KSEV Houston, so perhaps this is where that money is going. Their "La Raza" format to follow?

If ESPN goes to 92.5/104.9, what happens to 1260/1530?

If 98.9 goes oldies, it will bring them full circle as they entered the Austin market in 1989 as oldies "Kool 99" at 99.1. The next few days should be interesting on the radio dial.

Hmmm, so Liberman will be in Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston and Austin? Aside from the fact that it doesn't make sense, it seems to me that a purchase of one of the BMP properties would have been cheaper with a faster return. Clear Channel has been taking a lot of hits lately on the sale of it's unwanted properties, but I don't see them dumping 105.9 anytime soon. Changing the format again, this time to Spanish language format, maybe. But I don't think so.

The change is long overdue....Looking forward to seeing what happens here in SA. Lord knows it can't get any worse than it is now.

i read on some weeks ago about border meia has entered into a local managemnt agrement with simmons media, one a border media application. now i can't find the application that has the information on it. i believe it was on the old kxbt 104.9 apllication, before border media change call letters.

Sadly, Austin's Spanish radio loses its most popular LOCAL personalities in the bargain. BMP acquired a lot of debt right before the advertising economy soured. It's a shame the air staff pays the price. They actually have a pretty good product on the air. But the bank wants its money.

It IS interesting that two Spanish stations appear to be flipping to English at the same time that both the ABC and CBS stations launched Spanish .2 channels. Granted ESPN radio has long suffered in Austin due to the poor signal from 1530, but this does seem to go against the conventional wisdom.
