BMP Buys KTSA/Jack

Next to go for CBS CORP. is SAN ANTONIO, where the company is selling Talk KTSA-A and Adult Hits KJXK (102.7 JACK FM) to BORDER MEDIA PARTNERS for $45 million cash. BMP already owns Urban Oldies KTFM, Religion KFNI-A (NUEVA VIDA 1380), Regional Mexican KLEY-F (LA LEY), Spanish Top 40 KRIO-F (DIGITAL 104.1), Regional Mexican KSAH-A (NORTENO 720), and Spanish Oldies KZDC-A (LA LUPE) in the market.

CBS recently sold off its AUSTIN, CINCINNATI, ROCHESTER, and MEMPHIS clusters to ENTERCOM.

That is HUGE! Technically, BMP could bring KTFM back to 102.7 However I doubt they would.

(Que the ex KTFM staff with their comments and praise of the old KTFM)

Well let me be one of first former KTFM employees to speak, having been out of the game for almost four years Im sittin at home chillin. waiting to open my club for the weekend (Kristal) I havent said much on these boards Ive just been reading and laughing at all the posting some of you guys are funny you all take this radio s**t so personal. well im suprised that BMP has bought KTFM and KTSA I personally hoped that it would be Emmis or Radio 1 but BMP got two great sticks for a great price and two of the best engineers in the business (Leroy and Richard) what I really hope is that BMP does the right thing in the market. What that is I really don't know there are a lot of directions they can go. Is jack fm really working? is jammin really working? the beat although is number 1 working? when you are the only show in town people have to listen. if you dont know by now this radio s**t Is all about revenue (if it don't make dollars it don't make sense) ratings are so up and down lately is anyone really winning, I dont have those answers but I hope from my position of of being a client of radio now.(Ive spent over quarter million dollars in the market) I would like to see some competition. GOOD COMPETETION and if it drives the price of commercial spots down and gives me more than one outlet to advertise my club ill be happy. I'm tired of beieng raped by one station. BMP is in the best position to bring back the old KTFM having the majority of former KTFM employees Rick the stick, Henrietta, Greg Martin, and Joey Deee was at jack ( all you are missing is Drex) makes me wonder did BMP aquire the KTFM calls knowing that someday they would be able to return them to 102.7 again just like I used to wonder why Bernie Waterman sold KTFM and KTSA for 90 million in stock over of cash (then the stock split three times)what really would have been a hoot was if Bernie would have bought it back for half the price he sold it for. These things are planned out and at a level most of us will never be at, and the question still remains does San Antonio want a KTFM comback. We are six years down the road times have changed and people have changed. All I can say is that the old KTFM was good radio and I miss those days. Radio in San Antonio sux so any change is for the better. shout out to REWIND and FABIAN! wassup

It is very likely that existing BMP formats in the SA market will be moved over to the superior 550 and 102.7 signals, while something different replaces those formats on the old stations. Both KTSA and KJXK will probably be virtually unrecognizable from their prior incarnations. ???

**Sigh**...the Top 40 heyday of KTSA seems like a million years ago. :'(

Ahhhhhhh we all love living in the past don't we?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

KTFM was flipped because their identity and ratings were all gone. Bring it back now so it can just take Zs numbers? That would be stupid.

My bet is the Beat gets Hispanic CHR compeitition.

******bag-KTFM was flipped because their identity and ratings were all gone. Bring it back now so it can just take Zs numbers? That would be stupid.

Actually, that's not true. The last book KTFM was still in the Top 10 and moving up- demos of 12+ and 18-34.

I would like to think BMP brings back 102.7 KTFM but doubt it. One thing you can count on is saying adios to the high paying dj at KTSA.

Before I begin let me take off my earrings so I can be ready to jab back on the fools who want to get upset at my post.

HERE WE FREAKING GO! You just meantion the KTFM calls and people start posting about "The Old KTFM" Well I wasnt born in San Antonio and I didnt start my career in San Antonio but I do know the history. This is not the 80's and it is certainly not the 90's. The old KTFM is DEAD!!!! FAAAAAAAAAAACE ITTTTTTT! Besides, even if BMP did bring back KTFM to 102.7 (Which they would NEVER do because of Jammin ratings) why in the world would you want to bring back the old tired a55 airstaff? Henry and stick are fine where they are at. Joey Dee? Oh please dont get me started. He needs to stick to selling mobile homes and his feeble attempts at doing radio again by becoming a club dj. What you people fail to realize is that the old KTFM sucked. Let me let you in on why it was so successful. Are you ready? THEY HAD NO COMPETITION!!! Plain and simple. The Beat came and demolished a heritage station that was #1 for 20 years in less than a year. Come on people, KTFM aint coming back. Besides, only ex employees and industry people want it to return. Trust me, San Antonio is much better of without it. And IF BMP was foolish enough to bring it back the Beat would destory them all over again.

What makes you think the beat could whoop on a station (any station) that would come up to compete in the market. (now I can't explain why Z 1067 has not, you gotta ask Doug Bennett about that) last I recall Ktfm was on their 6th year of being in the number one slot when the beat came in and took them out. Now the beat is in their 6th year what makes you think that San Antonio is not ready for a change anything new does attract listeners, all im saying is whats goes up must come down and Ill bet anyone A THOUSAND DOLLARS! that if Drex came back into the market he'd whoop some morning show ass Now... going back to the part of old memories of ktfm the beat is not or never will be ktfm the point that im making is ktfm made more use out of being number 1 it was a more people/ listener station the jocks had more star power than any other station. and the paychecks that the jocks were recieving spoke for themselves when I or most people say that we miss those days im not talking about ktfm itself im more or less talking about the days when radio was for the people the listeners not the money hungry sales staff they are now there was a fine line between programming and sales and many a day they didnt get along because it was the program directors job to make the music and jocks shine I don't ever remember Cliff Treadway bowing down to sales. And for all you newbies in the game YOU MISSED A GREAT TIME IN RADIO!

I agree with STEALINGyourAUDIENCEgirl ....if the OLD KTFM was brought back...it would do nothing against the BEAT...when I was brought in by JD Gonzalez back in September 2000...we found the OLD KTFM's weaknesses and exploited them and took them down in the timeframe we gave ourselves.

BIGMIKESA, u say if the BEAT had competition it would be taken down...do you remember a station called HOT 92.5??? Enough said. We still consider Mix 96.1 and Z106.7 our competition. As long as THE BEAT keeps its course and does what it does...it will be at top of its game for a long time.

In my career I've taken down the mighty KHFI in Austin with KQBT back in 1998...and the mighty KTFM back in the day in 2001. I've been LUCKY enough to be a part of these stations. I was even lucky enough to be a part of KTFM from 97-98...and learned great things from Joey Deee and the rest of the KTFM staff while I was there...and still learning about radio every single day.

You consider a 50,000 watts station that's located in the middle of nowhere a competitor??? C'mon.... Anyways, I think The Beat is a powerhouse that can be brought down like many other stations around the country. KTFM went on a downward spiral when Infinity/CBS Radio took over.

Posted by: STEALINGyourAUDIENCEgirl -te old KTFM is DEAD!!!! FAAAAAAAAAAACE ITTTTTTT! Besides, even if BMP did bring back KTFM to 102.7 (Which they would NEVER do because of Jammin ratings)

Jammin ratings...LOL...You need to check out the latest trend/book. 94.1 lost it's groove several months ago.

Hey..a 50,000 watt station can take down a 100,000, if programmed right...case in point KPTY in Phoenix took down Power 92.3 back in the mid 90's. Look it up!

I REMEMBER.... YOU WERE AT KTFM. THE IGUANA WAS THERE LONGER AND YOU STILL GOT A LOT TO LEARN BUDDY!

LOL...ur funny...and u r right...imagine how much better THE BEAT can be when I learn more...LOL

ktfm ktfm ktfm
if u were there u were there...if not u were not!

if bmp wants to revive ktfm...let them...they have many members of the old staff! they can try but i wont be the same....good luck to them

as for hot 92.5, that obiously was a joke and didnt even present competition to the beat as the signal was whack!ktfm had direct competition...mix 96!!!

as for the beat...lol.....bmp took your best sales staff now they are coming after that programming!

romeo, while the beat came in and did their thing we will give u credit for taking down ktfm(if thats what u think)

the truth is ktfm destroyed itself from the inside. it was the best of times and the worst of times....

funny when the beat rose to #1 jd was quoted as starting a station that exploited ktfms weaknesses with several air personalities no one has heard of.....that includes u romeo....did he actually let u program music/station when he left....no....the station....no.....seems rick thomas then cindy hill got that gig!

wait...you programmed la kalle...which lasted about 2 months or 4 i cant remember!

heres a radio for dummies recap......

1. no one cares what bmp does!
2. the old ktfm is dead! move on people!
3. the beat is #1, and whack! with no competition!
4. it took 28 years for people to hate ktfm---
it has taken only 6 years to hate the beat!
5. what goes up, must come down!

now everyone return to your regularly scheduled boring corporate radio!

DAMN

THE TRUTH HURTS!!!

SOUNDS LIKE SOMEONE IS GETTING THIER !@#$ HANDED TO THEM!

LA KALLE? ITS OFF THE AIR????...DAMN I DIDNT GET A CHANCE TO LISTEN.....

THETRUTH210
LATINO AND PROUD

u r right deejay05....

I picked La Kalle over The Beat because I wanted to show what I could do with a not only a NEW station ,but a Latin Urban station in this market...In the 6 MONTHS on air... La Kalle did better than KXXM and KELZ in 12+ and 18-34 ratings. La Kalle was #2 in the market on weekends behind THE BEAT. Unfortunately, Corporate felt that Recuerdo would make more money...and like u said...let's "return to your regularly scheduled boring corporate radio!"

LA KALLE ???? THEY WERE THE SECOND STATION TO GET A HUMMER.. I SAW IT TWICE.... THE THIRD TIME I SAW IT IT WAS FOR SALE AT DRIVE TIME ???
