Woke up early to listen what the new formats are, 104.9 and 92.5 have gone ESPN. As of 4:30am 98.9 has an annooying ticking sound looped over and over, rumor is NEWS TALK on FM.

I hear the GM Jerry Del Core is the one to blame for all this ???, this is the reason he got caned from Cheap Channel Atlanta. He screwed up the Atlanta cluster and fired alot of people all because he has penis envy ;D ;D and wants to play with the the big boys! Google his name and read up on his "Legacy." :D :D

Adios Border Media... ;) ;)

I wonder what happened to the change of KFON 1490. As of this morning it's still "Juan". The entire staff of "Juan" was terminated. When the staff of "La ley" was saying it's final farewells it included everyone from "Juan" and "Digital" as well. Even the sales staff were either terminated or voluntarily quit for all three formats.

Hmnn....

I had read that Juan would stay. For the unenlightened who described Juan as Tejano, it's actually an adult variety format ala Jack or Bob but with hits in Español. Simmons is doing Spanish sports on 1260 so 1490 would give them something to combo with.

Well, what is the future of "Juan" 1490? Maybe it's a priority to get the other two formats off the ground before they deal with "Juan" 1490.

The possibility of a combo is a good and valid observation. Juan is a computer run, jockless format that BMP's Jose Santos created for several markets and is indeed an adult hits format (that is the Arbitron designation) with songs from the 70's, 80's, 90's and some from the current decade.

It's cost efficient and can combo with ESPN in Spanish (which generates minimal numbers if any) to "bulk up" the buy.

"Juan" is still on because Jerry "Del Kill radio" couldnt seal the deal with a local christian church to LMA it off to them.

You would think that a Hispanic targeted format would still be the best option for 1490 as its signal is best in the heavily Hispanic parts of town.

ktxx is the new call letters to 104.9 dripping springs khhl is the new call letters on 103.1 karnes city
they swap call letters on both stations. 104.9 has several different call letters in the past.

So the Austin market has KTXX and KTXZ and they're not related. No confusion there. They'll just be getting a lot of eachother's mail.

univision must be real happy about this, their stations will now go up big in the ratings

It's a real implosion of what could have been a good little cluster. How sad.

Can someone here explain to me how 104.9 is supposed the big stick, but 92.5 is far clearer here in central Austin (Steck & MoPac)?

thanks!

I would suspect that Univision is more than pleased to BMP out of the Spanish language game, even if temporarily. The switch of 107.7 to a Regional Mexican music format will take some 4.5 12+ share of listeners. My guess is that it will be little more than a wash from where they were before with Hitz on average. That leaves about a 2 point potential available to 104.3. Not bad, assuming that they take all the numbers that 98.9 had, which I doubt.

KHHL = 4.5 share/12+
KXXS = 1.4 share/12+
KKZS = 1.2 share/12+
KFON = 1.0 share/12+

I think that a better question is... Up for grabs is a 8.1 12+ share. Who will get what? There's a lot of time to speculate.

ESPN Sports Marketing! Not really, the terrain there at Steck and Mopac hurts 104.9 coming from the West.

Remember that once 92.5 gets the upgrade that it has requested, it will be transmitting with 6kw from the tower farm. That's when Jerry will have at least one real downtown signal. Add that to the 620/2222 site of 98.9 and you can see that Jerry has a plan. But, I think that he should have kept 1490 for something to combo as a freebie with the others.

What makes you think Jerry has a plan? You wanna see his plan? Just look back at the previous markets he's destroyed... :eek: I bet he didn't count on KVET being on 99.7 now did he? That kinda throws a wrench in his "plan" ;D

Well, he's still there. That had to be a part of his plan. Spanish language programming is gone. again that had to be a part of his plan. Do I think that he really knows what he's doing. No not really.

I doubt he will be able to replace the $4m or so in billing he had quick enough. He is the radio killer and his track record shows it. He is doing what he did previously and the only logical think for BMP to do is to give him the boot. Found some comments on some Spanish language bloggers that say he is the Mataradio or radio killer and that they are claiming him to be a racist. It could be a disgruntle on-air guy but it leads me to believe that Jerry didn't understand how to guide his team and certainly should have been given to heavehoo...He is a great example of Micromanagement 101.....idea doesnt work and idea never worked.
