Board dying? Who does all Christmas this year?

My guess is a hd2 or 3 channel.

Is the new board format killing participation , or are things really this slow in Houston?

Stan, I think there are a couple of reasons. This change certainly did not help it. However, I have observed less participation over the last couple of years. Every now and then, there would be a flurry of posts and then would decline again. Facebook may have a lot to do with it. There are radio groups there which have a lot of participation. I participate more there, than I do here.

As far as Christmas music is concerned, the usual offering by KODA and KSBJ will air sometime soon.

Thanks for posting Stan and Chuck. Finally, a sign of life.

For a week before today, the most recent posting was one I put up back on the 10th, a full week ago. I wondered if there was a problem with the board's new setup, or if people were avoiding this Board because of something I said. Seriously.

I have to say I am not totally happy with this Brave New World of Radio Discussions. But RD's managers don't ask me for my advice anymore.

When there are no flips, there isn't much to discuss.

I get tired of posting about HD-2's that are absent, like the Point a couple of times. Nobody cares about HD radio, so the stations don't support it, so it is unreliable when a potential new listener tries out HD radio. Vicious circle - resulting in bad news for HD radio.

What KODA and KSBJ play isn't Christmas music. KODA makes it the least religious they possibly can - almost no Christmas carols ever heard. Even the great Christmas stuff recorded in the 60's isn't played on there very much. Have yourself a secular little Christmas, or is it Hannuckwanzmas, or Happy Holidays. Anything to keep the Christ out of Christmas. As far as KSBJ, it is an excuse for playing yet more praise and worship - only off Christmas albums. Bad Christmas albums from bad praise and worship artists. Lukewarm and not very entertaining. Maybe NGEN will play something that is actually entertaining. Or Air-1. A real Christmas station? Haven't heard one in ten years. Even churches barely have Christmas carols in their Christmas musicals. The music directors try to get creative and you don't hear what you came to hear.

I think the RD people bought this new format software. I've seen it before on a board I moderated for a TV show. It was a freakin' disaster, because it was impossible to moderate posts before they were posted. They seem to have fixed that in this software. But it is a far cry from the simple and fast loading format they used to have. Probably so they can have a iPhone version - I see the little logo up in the corner. I never visited RD from my iPhone. Probably never will.

I use the mobile app from my android exclusively now. In my opinion, the mobile site is much easier to use than the full site, unless you want to use smileys. I don't often, so that doesn't effect me. Once I started using the mobile site, the background changed from black to white, which is much easier on my eyes.

I'm in agreement with Bruce on the lack of true Christmas music being offered by KODA, and disagree with KSBJ giving in and playing secular Christmas music, but it is what it is. Right along with the whole "Happy Holidays" nonsense, it is a sign of the times and a continued abandonment of God in this country. Political correctness has blown away spiritual correctness. I won't preach here, but our current state is documented in the Bible. We are in a famine. Not of bread and water, but of the Word of God.

The site's new look contributes to the reduction of posts certainly, but as Chuck stated, the board was leaking air before the new software was implemented. The lack of anything compelling in this market's radio stations has basically sent our board into cardiac arrest. I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, KCOH was the last big format change in this market. I can't remember the last time that Houston radio became as complacent as it is currently.

As soon as something happens, I'll lead the charge on posting it and striking up the conversation, but someone in the industry locally is going to have to give us something to talk about. Until then, someone cue the crickets...

The Houston radio world has become a rather boring one. Not much change here. Sure wish someone would give some of these stations some competition. They REALLY need it. You know something is going terribly wrong when you hear "Thrift Shop" on the only Modern Rock/Alternative station in Houston. As far a Christmas goes KODA and KSBJ. The usual.

I've noticed a drastic reduction in posts on the threads I tend to follow...maybe 20% of what it was before the change.

Houston radio has been quite bland as far as changes go. KILT's recent retooling is likely the latest. I say retooling because they didn't change from country but modified the country they play. Even the KCOH change was to another frequency, not a format but frequency change. Sort of makes you think several format changes could happen in a short time span since it has been so long since anybody really dropped a format.

Maybe no news is good news for us radio people in the market. No changes represents a level of stability. may the paychecks keep coming!

I'm an XM subscriber, so I listen to Holiday Traditions when it starts up. It's all older Christmas music (I don't think there's anything past the '60s), and takes over the "40s on 4" channel. Live 365 also has a channel called "Blue Light Christmas" that plays the older Christmas music that some of us grew up with. Live 365 can be heard via smartphone app or online.

According to a countdown posted on it's website, KODA-99.1 will go all-Christmas on Friday, November 22nd at 5 P.M. Central Time.

But should someone beat "Sunny 99-1" to the punch, then KODA will probably be forced to move-up that date and time.
