Board Ops? Montgomery, AL

What have we done to this business anyway? Back in the old days (70's) there were hundreds (maybe 10's) of high school kids who would have done anything to get their feet in the door at a radio station - let alone get a real job out of it. Now...? Can't find a board op to save your life. What, does every 17 year old want to work for MTV? Really, we are always looking for board ops for WAVC-AM, Alice 96.1, and WBAM. Can't even find someone to train. Anyone know someone who wants to get started in this industry, have them call the radio station.

rick--

gooooood point!

I saw that coming about 10 years ago. I was one of the last of the generation who would aGIVE THEIR LEFT ONE TO TAKE OUT THE TRASH-- at a radio station. But i had passion for the radio stations I was listening to ( I-95/Birmingham with Mark and Brian, and there were of course stations like Power Pig/Tampa that piqued alot of young people's interest in radio.)

Then with the telecom act of 1996-- radio GOT BORING-- They said " Screw it! Let's voicetrack/automate/syndicate-- PISS ON IT!! WE WILL MAKE OUR $$$"

Flash forward-- you wonder why people don't give a (BLEEP) about radio? THAT IS WHY! Name one station in town that KICKS ASS!

I am not taking shots at anyone-- but-- think about it-- Before Bluewater -- YOUR STATIONS WERE AUTOMATED "throwaway stations" ( no offense to jay scott--)

It will take time to build energy and passion-- if ever--

Now -- having said that-- I MUST ADMIT I AM PART OF THE PROBLEM-- AS I VOICETRACK TWO STATIONS-- i doubt anyone has passion about listening to me ---

> Really,

MTV is a joke. Perhaps someday radio will become enjoyable again after Big Radio falls or breaks up. I like listening to the radio but as I explain earlier in various posts, it sucks in northeast Alabama, way too many cookie cutter stations. It could be that radio goes in cycles and that we probably ending the crappy cycle since satellite radio is really taking off. Or that FM will stay or turn into what AM radio is, a whole lot of nothing but one or two formats.

I hope the next generation will make FM/AM radio enjoyable again.

wow....whatever happened to 5-8 months ago when you had the idea that boards ops like myself were not worth anything?????

geee.......for over a year i had been offering my services as a fully trained board op/show producer and now your asking for a board op ??????

i could easily say yeah i'd be interested, but why would you want to waste your time with me when you just train someone else?

look rick.....i'm not really sure what you or terry's real issues with me were, i'm not really interested in applying for some 2 bit board op job anymore since i already have myself a nice job that pays well.

hate me if you want rick, but i respect you and i do enjoy listening to the greg show and i wish greg all the best.<P ID="signature">______________

If your deperate for a board op...I mean desperate for a fill in for the fill in board op then I might be able to help. I am only available in the evenings, some weekends. I don't really need the money or the work but I was a board op, producer, on air guy in a past life and you seem like you really need someone that will actually do the job correctly. I really enjoyed board oping talk shows and sports broadcast. Drop me an [email protected].
