BOB 94.9 Played Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe

Automation glitch? Sometimes stuff like this happens (I remember 104.9 The Cat here in Albany displaying a Coldplay album cover with a Kenny Chesney song title on the Now Playing, for example) :)

When I was a kid, in the 1970s, we listened to WIOV-FM. I will never forget one early Sunday afternoon they played "Barracuda" by Heart. How could that one ever be explained?

That in 1970 would be tough to explain. Someone put it on cart on purpose.

Seltzer, I would say it was about 1978 or so. For a country station that was not anything close to country!

There was a period in the late 70s where I do recall WIOV was doing
a bit of a hybrid format which incorporated some pop music in their
rotation. There was also a breif time that WNOW which was country in York
back then did the same back in the early 80s. Programmers were making an
attempt to create a format that appealed to pop & country audiences , which in
the long term did not work as anticipated and both stations went back to
straight ahead country.

I verified on MMR 24/7 that "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen did in fact play Friday @ 3:45 on WRBT. It also was the song's only play on any monitored country formatted station this week.

Very cool song...maybe Taylor Swift should do a country cover of it..she might have a big hit!
There is certainly a long history of country covers of big pop hits...
