About time for me to send in my audition tape, eh? Seriously though, they've been grooming a successor with the stage version of Price at the various Harrah's casino entities coast to coast, so the show will go on sans Bob.
I believe Dennis James did the syndicated version in the 70's. He did a good job back then. When an icon leaves a position, some shows will go on and some will not. The Tonight Show has been successful with new hosts, but other shows have not continued (Chico and the Man is a good example).
What other shows have been successful with new hosts or stars and which ones did not?
It's a sad day in the world of game shows and in daytime. But I do wish Bob a nice retirement!
I wonder who will replace him. I'd like to see Doug Davidson host again like he did with the syndicated version in the 90s, but I think Mr. Davidson has his hands full with acting right now on Young and the Restless.
With Bob Barker retiring look for CBS's ratings to plummet even further. Maybe they should have Katie Couric host TPIR as well. RFLMAO. *J/K* about having Katie hosting it.
My goodness, I guess all legends must come to an end. I don't remember TV without Bob Barker. I grew up watching him on Truth or Consequences every night and, then, TPIR. I literally remember Bob Barker and the Huntley/Brinkley report for the Evening News. Amazing what a 4 year old child remembers. Even more amazing that my parents would let me watch the Evening News with all the reports of deaths from Vietnam.
TPIR won't be the same without Bob. I hope the new host, can explain correctly to the contestant how to play
'The Check Game'. And I hope its not Ricki Lake. It would be nice if GSN does a marathon. As his retirement nears.
How I would enjoy seeing old episodes from the 70's & 80's. Hopefully some 'best-of' moments will be out on dvd.
At some point. For Bob's last show $100,000 Plinko. And all Luxury Cars!
:'( I'm still trying to let the news sink in....as the old saying goes, it is truly the end of an era. I don't want to hear the word "replacement" again (at least for a while anyway) because in my mind the King in irreplacable no matter who steps in.

But what if they do go with the original Tracy Turnblad/Holly Pelligrino/"Mrs. Winterbourne"/talker/"Gameshow Marathon" hostess? She does have a deal with Fremantle (TPIR's owner) for various projects, and we're not talking "American Idol," "Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency," "Neighbours" and "Prisoner:Cell Block H" either.
...there's quite a few people who've had to deal with Barker personally who won't miss him (and I speak not of just Dian Parkinson and Holly Hallstrom, either). A common half-joke among CBS Television City personnel is that, three days after his death, a very surprised expression will appear on Barker's corpse's face...
Daytime television won't be the same without Bob. I have enjoyed the program throughout my lifetime. I watch it whenever I can. Bob will be missed by loyal viewers. It's a shame that Bob is hanging it up. I guess it's better that he retire, instead of kicking the bucket while still on the air. That would make it even more upsetting.
Bob Goen? That's a new one! He hasn't been on CBS daytime in 15 years, and he did a fine job with Daytime Wheel too!
Realistically it's going to be one of two people in my mind: either Todd Newton or Marc Summers. I've had the pleasure of seeing them both host the stage show in Atlantic City and got the pleasure to meet them both (they're really great guys) and they have the personality and the respect for the format to not tarnish the show like...say...Doug Davidson did in 1994 (though it wasn't all his fault by any means).
I've always liked Marc Summers and think he would make a fine host for The Price Is Right. Most GenX-ers (sadly, my generation) know him as a game show host from Nickelodeon's "Double Dare" and the older generation and women know him from his various hosting gigs on Lifetime and the Food Network.
Todd Newton...ehh. If people don't get GSN for haven't watched "Hollywood Showdown" reruns on the TVGuide Channel, most won't know who he is - his interstitial appearances on last summer's "Game Show Marathon," not withstanding.
Perhaps after the first of the year, we shall see the top-two contenders guest-hosting the daytime version or primetime specials to see which one clicks with viewers and the audience-contestants.
The more I think about it, a series of primetime specials (perhaps during March and April, when CBS is needing something to fill time slots between sweeps periods) is probably a good idea. It wouldn't take anything away from Bob's last few months on the daytime show and would be a good way to introduce the audience to whomever Fremantle and CBS thinks should eventually host the show.
The bigger question with host changes, is how successful are game shows after a change?
Wheel of Fortune did just fine switching from Chuck to Pat. So did Jeopardy!, switching from Art to Alex (although there were a few years in between). But I'm sure there's many examples to the contrary.
