Bob Becker

Last week Bob Becker was let go by Clear Channel, Bob is one of the good guys in the business and will be missed. I am not sure why he was let go as he was only a part timer and did a good job on the Saturday news program. Anyway, Good luck Bob I am sure you will land on your feet.

Right now, "Wills and Snyder" sidekick/traffic reporter Dave Ramos is working Becker's old 6-8 shift on Saturday morning, followed by Angelo Petitti's gardening show at 8, and Gary Sullivan's "At Home" show from 9-noon.

If you remember Bob was not a republican and this station is bias. Becker had tamed his political views a lot in the past few years. Meaning the head of the station must of threaten him awhile ago. Cleveland is missing a progressive talk show all we get now is republican views.

Bob was always pretty moderate with a slight lean to the left. He was always willing to let both sides have their view. As someone who would be considered center/right I prefer talk show hosts like Dennis Prager, Bill Bennett or Michael Medved who don't just yell and holler but allow opposing viewpoints. This makes for good radio. Too bad Bob wasn't given a higher role at the station

Wish more radio talk hosts talked about lifestyle-type subjects, even funny stuff, entertainment, and so forth. That's why I like Dennis Miller....at least til he gets into politics when I tune away. But, because Dennis can be very entertaining, I come back.

Bob Becker was a veteran, solid broadcaster. I'll miss hearing him on weekends.

Sounds like WDOK dropped "Angelo" after the switch to The New 102. WTAM may as well make the whole Saturday morning all Gardening themed shows.

No offense but listening to someone talk about planting petunias and begonias on the air isn't exactly compelling radio.

It may not be, but it's on for four hours. Three too much. I rather hear a local talk show from at least 6 until 11 in the morning.

Well, Angelo is talking petunias from 8-9, and Gary Sullivan is more of a fix-it-up/DIY guy from 9-noon.

Wonder if Angelo pays for his show? Anybody know?

I do know this from personal experience...amazingly...these shows pull great ratings in most market, especially in women 35+. Pweh!

Wouldn't shock me if the Gardening show is brokered.

And remember, it's only on during spring and summer, when it's planting season (and one would be more inclined to go to a certain garden center/nursery).

Glad that Angelo landed on his feet across town. Maybe his show should air on Majic since they might have gotten a lot of WDOK listeners who were not happy with the changes over there.

When I use to board op Angelo's Garden show over WRMR 850 AM years ago, the phone lines NEVER stopped lighting up, even in the Winter time!

When did Angelo's show ever start and when did it move from WRMR to WDOK?

Back to Becker, do you guys think he will resurface at other stations? Maybe do some brokered programs on WHK or WERE.

Well Bob's center-leaning-left politics disqualifies him from 1420, and if Becker is willing to pony up the $, then WERE isn't out of the question. Former Triv sidekick Marty "Big Daddy" Allen has a Saturday show on 1490, so anything's possible.
