Bob Becomes Jack In Wichita Falls

The change comes with a switch from a locally programmed playlist to the national “Jack-FM” playlist.

I can hear 2 Jack FM stations in my area and they're exaftly the same except commercials. LOL one is from out of town, but the local LPFM on same frequency doesn't completely cover it up.

I'm not in TX, BTW. This is just funny.

Jack is syndicated below market 50, and custom consulted in larger ones.

Even above market 50, some are now on the national feeds including San Antonio and Columbus.

The original licensing deal with CBS carved out markets 1-40 for local scheduling. The rest have always been required to use Sparknet's playlists.

and now Jack is delivered by LRN :)

Jack went to the national feed in Kansas City sometime after it went off of 105.1 and moved to 94.9 HD2 and a translator at 102.5. I seem to remember it running a local feed shortly after it moved, but that has since changed.

I had once been told SparkNet required companies that worked with it to put the format on a Class B or C signal. So, if you had a Class A in the cluster, they wouldn't work with you to use it there. The satellite providers, however, have never cared.

KWFB had actually already been running the Jack syndicated music since January 31st when they first dropped the Bob name and ran without any liners at all.

Wow LOL I would keep the music local. Virtual is easier though.

That is interesting. Might this be part of the reduction of staff at the "Jack USA" HQ, such as the retirement of George Burns recently and the failure to update their website for about two years?

Last I spoke with George, there was a general attempt to have all larger market stations take the consulting package and pay for custom liners, music research that was market based, etc. That is, in fact, what

I have not gotten together with George since the pandemic began, so there may have been new "survival techniques" instituted since then. Last I shared time with George was at the Mission Inn in Riverside, which is an absolutely fabulous bit of "old California" (could not avoid the sidebar topic... that is such a fabulous place and anyone who lives within a few hundred miles should visit!).

and incredibly customizeable with LRN's Radio velocity control.. so its as good as local, with someone else doing the work, so you can focus on sales and stuff

What's the difference between Bob and Jack?

It seems like Bob is locally controlled, whilst Jack is nationally generic.

Bob and Jack have annoyed me since 2004, but there was a day in Nov 2013 where a "Jack" played Ex-Girlfriend by No Doubt and that was really enjoyable.

AFAIK, Columbus has always been the national feed. San Antonio moved to it around 2016-17 in an Alpha Media cost-cutting move.

Different consultants developed the brands and different syndicators manage it. Jack is mostly a plug and play syndicated feed with major market exceptions. Bob is more of just a licensing of a brand and consulted to customize for a market.
