Bob Bishop fired after 22+ years at KWNR

About 4 weeks ago, KWNR's female AM show host Natalie quits for a gig in Oklahoma. Now Clear Channel fires afternoon host Bob Bishop after a long 22 years with the station. Too bad, he was a great guy and pretty talented. From what I understand he got along with everyone too. I just hope he lands on his feet in this tough economy. But seriously, what's going on at KWNR? Natalie obviously saw the writing on the wall! What's next for this once great Country station? With their low ratings and plummeting revenue numbers, I'm sure CC is thinking about making a change. I happen to know numerous other people in the Clear Channel building looking for a way out, and I don't blame them.

That's a shame. I worked with Bob and he was always a good guy (to me at least). Of course, I liked Mitch Kelly too, but he suffered the same fate. That's just radio in general, numbers go down, people go away. Time to move on to something better, good luck Bob.

Clear Channel, from a powerhouse to an outhouse. The people they've blown out, Brooks O'Brian, Mitch Kelly and now Bob Bishop, one of a few nice guys in the business. I guess most of these decisions come from executives who have all the answers. I hear nothing but negative comments about Brandy, the GM here. It could be sour grapes from the people she cans while she hangs in filling her pockets as the ship is sinking. Clear Channel is the leading company of a few other that are bringing this radio business to its knees. Too bad.

Another example of clueless management treating valuable talent as though they can do without it. We can also thank PPM, and the mindset that deals like Cumulus/Citadel are good because lots of dollars are changing hands. In fact, both spell the death of radio as a fun and communicative medium. Managers have decided that it is for calculated sales and marketing campaigns now, neither of which are priorities for listeners. It will get much worse before it gets better, especially in Las Vegas, where that mindset is the rule.

And now add morning guy mark stevens to the list. And remember natalee left earlier this year. The morning show and afternoon show is gone in the last three months.
