Bob Coburn Says Goodbye

I was listening to KLOS this afternoon and BC said this was his last day. He dedicated his last song, Bryan Adams' Summer of 69, to the station ("Those were the best days of my life"). I hope The Sound picks him up.

Are you serious?!? What exactly are they trying to do?

My guess... I'd say they're making room. Benson is working weekends now and it's gotten crowded. Then again, have they canned any of the other weekenders? Are they dropping Rockline?

Citadel isn't automating their weekends?

I would think it'd be their full-timers that would each be voicetracking one or two shifts on the weekends and then the rest of the time it'd be a sweeper show.

Citadel has been struggling financially so this may be one of several cost cutting moves: Elder at KABC, Benson and Coburn at KLOS. Don't know about their stations outside LA though.

Outside of L.A., I can only speak of one market, because of the friends I have there: Citadel's WDVD-FM (Hot AC) in Detroit is staffed live 24/7 with no voice tracking or sweeper shows. Lots of interaction with the talent via phone and facebook. Their other FM, WDRQ "Doug FM" like JACK is jockless, but they're throwing more 70's pop in the mix with the 80's and classic rock stuff, even a few Frank Sinatra and Patsy Cline as well. The AM, WJR does seem to reley more heavily on syndicated shows, as does most of the rest of Citadel's talkers.

Bob Coburn is a class act. Prior to L.A. he did nights on KGB-FM/San Diego, where I became a fan. I hope he bounces back.

A class act, Bob Coburn. His Rockline shows and features were some of the best and will always be appreciated by listeners and jocks. Rockline aired for years on 97 Rock, Buffalo. As a former Citadel employee, I wish Bob well. Damn, this beach is getting crowded!
