BOB FM Music

> Does anybody know if the BOB FM music is locally played?

How could one determine this by listening to the station? Are there any clues from what is on the air that a listener could pick up on to let them know if it was originating locally or not?

I'm not being a smart-ass. I'm genuinely curious about this.

With the huge variety of music they are playing is what made me to believe that it might not be local. Do radio stations have CD's that are not usually part of their playlists?

I believe that many stations nowadays play their music from MP3's located on their LAN file server, or even the hard drive of the computer in the studio. And networking being what it is today, there's no reason why a DJ in one town couldn't be playing MP3's housed on servers located anywhere.

Then again, maybe they just bought one each of every CD sold at http://www.k-tel.com/music.html.

And for the most part, consultants who bring in new formats typically have the music or know where to find it.
______________

Re: BOB Music DJ's coming soon

I was told the bob dj's will be coming soon. I think it will make it a lot better.

And I'd bet it will be something along the lines of splitting up Battle and Nene and putting one in the morning, with Rohan still mid-days.
______________

How so? How will having DJ's make that musical kludge sound better?

Even if it does, at least those people are still employed, unlike those who work/worked for Keymarket, if the above posts have any merit

are you referring to me/my post?

Long answer:

Stations either play music directly from a hard drive in a studio in some cases, or as noted, off a server...they are usually a .wav file or a special file in Scott Studios case. (I think .ssci)

You can tell if BOB is programmed locally or not...

any long gaps or odd overlap between songs and ID's, jingles, or commercials can often indicate that the programming is comming off a satellite (I think it's comming from Waitt Radio Netowrks)

If you hear any audible tones, like two quick chirps or a low tone, that could be a sign...

Also, if all you hear are national spots (esp. during dayparts), that's another sign it could be satellite fed

In other words, the goal is to make BOB FM (off satellite) sound live and local, and I personally think Waitt does the best job of that. Jones Radio Network and WW1 are pretty bad.

In other words, it's pretty hard to determine if BOB is comming off the spacebird or programmed in Pittsburgh. It would take an error of somekind to determine otherwise.

Maybe the Radio Realist is right

I have talked to folks in their 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's..not a lot of people.
Most do not like Bob FM. Today I asked a fellow at the NAPA store and he told me he is upset Bob and Tom was taken off. He said most broadcast stations play two songs and then a lot of commercials. he is tired of the tight playlists and he does not like Bob. He is happy he has XM radio. They were playing WDVE
in the parts store. I like most of music on bob(just my opinion) I personally think Bob is going to become a third or fourth button radio station. some women will have ltj, wshh and zpt and bob. Some guys will have wdve, wxdx, k rock and bob. other women will have 100.7, 96.1, wshh and bob. some folks my age might have dve, 3ws and bob, 104.7 might be in this group too..
the realist says satellite radio folks are going to be happy. He may be right. But this guy at the NAPA complained about the amount of commercials. So when you buy :15's or :30's or have boring liners as well as too many :60's "can you hear me KDKA , KQV & clear channel" another :10 another :15 a news headline..another :15 ..it might pay the bills but the listener is tuning out. punching the button.
