I'm sorry, but I don't understand why they would want to. Kiss is an uncontested CHR in the market and they're only in the mid 4's. Even combined with WAMO, that's only in the mid 8's in the market. You're not really gaining any ground by trying to take them on. WDSY and Froggy combined are in the mid 12's; a huge chunck of the market to bite into. Why not try to take out Froggy and protect 'DSY's flank with a young country format.

Remember, a vast majority of Froggy's numbers are from the outlying areas, not from 98.3. They can knock the snot out of the actual "metro" signal and possibly make them change their format.

I think it would be a good move. Too bad Infinity doesn't have the stones to pull it off.

It looks like a lot of people enjoy the huge playlists. I wouldn't be surprised if Bob goes up in the 5's the next rating cycle.

Looks like the success didn't last.

It looks like you were right. Over a year ago, it looked like it was going to do well. It seems like 3WS stole some of the Bob listeners.

When I dug this thread up, I was looking for the posts in which many people predicted that Bob would start strong and burn out fast. I didn't find those predictions, but I recall there were lots of them.

Since K Rock is gone, now might be a good time to put the classic rock or rock format back on 96.9.

As much as I liked K Rock, even I would have to admit that three rock stations in a market that is not in the top 15 or so would be overkill. As much as I would like to see 97 Rock return, I won't hold my breath. When there were four rock stations it was only a matter of time before somebody flipped and they did. As many have said with Howard Stern's departure from K Rock, maybe they should have flipped as well.

As long as Bob does not plummet, then there's no real reason to flip. I would be very interested to see how 3WS does with their current format over the long term. I got to admit those were great numbers.

Not a bad idea. I think the time is right to give it a try. When I worked at Rebel 104.7, we had a lot of 40 plus listeners by default. One reason for that is that we had a lot of songs from "outlaw" country artists on our playlist. We were able to attract the intended target of 18-34, but we were also able to reach outside of the top end.

What needs to be realized is that this kind of a format needs to be heavily promotion-intensive in order to be a success. It's essentially a country station with a CHR presentation. You can't be chincy with it or it's not going to succeed.
