Bob FM

I wish Bob FM would be more like Jack FM in San antonio. They are playing to much like 94.7. Needs to play more adult hits. Anyone else think this way?

i listen sometimes to bob-fm and i often wonder where are they going with the format. can you tell me more about the san antonio station, since i can't recieve the station up in austin. thanks captex

Mix just sounds to me like a station without direction. I like Bob better than Jack, only because I am not a fan of the in-your-face presentation of Jack stations. Bob sounds much more friendly and inviting. Plus, I like the fact that they have DJ's on Bob, but they don't just talk for the sake of hearing themselves talk (like Mix does) I'll agree Jack does play a few more obscure 80's songs but other than that, I prefer Bob.

And some do it without DJs because the Jack music lifestyle is often accompanied by a total rejection of jocks. LA's KCBS-FM is perhaps the most successful of all Jacks, and has no DJ's. Drops are refreshed constantly every hour, using lots of listener contribution. Every shift is manned by a production pro who puts stuff together on the fly, making the station very spontaneous and fun. It's the station for the large group that says "shut up and play the music," often in reaction to too many decades of vacuous motor mouth jocks.

Speaking of LA, I've been there a couple of times and it always struck me as a way over-radioed market. With that much competition what's considered a successful station? What kind of ratings do you need to have? For example Jack FM there pulls a 2.2 12+. Is that good enough?

thanks fredcantu for the jack website, i didn't know there so ,many jack stations in america and some in canada. didn't the jack format start in canada somewhere. is there a website that lists all the bob's stations or other name stations. bob in austin and jack-fm in bryan / college station i like the most.

Jack has an average of 3.0 in the last three weeks (Weeks 1 to 3 of October) and has a 3.7 in 25-54, good for 7th. The station last year billed $55 million, one of the top 10 billers in the US and #4 in LA. 35 stations billed $7 million or over; 30 billed more than the highest billing San Antonio station. 13 bill over $30 million each, with the top one doing nearly $68 million.

Stations with 0.5 share can do $5 to $8 million, in fact.

I moved from Nashville to Central Texas three years or so ago. In Nashville, there were no stations that existed, even in DX like Jack or Bob. Only since I've moved here, South Central Communications changed it's long-time oldies station (96.3/WMAK/Murfreesboro) to Jack FM (WCJK) and never got my first experience with these types of stations until I moved here.

Bob FM, when I first moved here, was a pretty good station three years ago. I can't say that now, probably because my music tastes change rapidly. I guess that I listened to it because it was a novelty. I have noticed that it does not play as many classic hits as it once did.

I like B/CS Jack FM and is better in comparison at least for now. It's nearly the same as the one in Nashville.
