Bob Galli out at Regent???

He's curiously off the website...and even though the production job is still posted on the web...word is, there's a new production person....weird.

Radio Ling Chi

Up next - Slick Tom Tiberi on WJYE!!!

Nah, that would require a tear in the time-space continuum...

I heard Joe Chille, probaby tracked, this afternoon. I didn't listen long enough to determine if it was live or VT.

My guess is that they want somebody who'll do both PM drive and production. It wouldn't surprise me if it was a 3-11 shift, with 3-6 live on air, 6-7 VT, and production into the evening hours in order to replace the departed Skip Edmunds. It'll be salaried, so if things aren't done by 11, overtime won't be paid.

OTOH, Santa music is probably right around the corner. How much does Regent value a live body talking up Christmas music in PM drive on WJYE? They could drop in traffic inserts from WYRK without too much trouble.

Radio is dying the death of a thousand cuts. Bob Galli is the latest to feel the knife. Unfortunately, he probably won't be the last. We'll know how bad things are when they go after the cash cow - WYRK.

Good Luck, Bob.

WJYE has a Christmas countdown clock running on their website (which is rather bland and template). Looks like they'll step into Christmas at 7 pm this Friday. Later than I had predicted, but really, who cares.

I was thinking more like 9a-6p - 9a-3p production, 3p-6p on-air/partial VT (to do production), 6p-7p fully tracked. If the work's not done by 6, you stay until it is - as Rox noted, without OT. Either way it's bogus - but that's the radio biz in the 21st century.

Good thoughts to Mr. Galli as he "hits the beach"...

side dishes are out

Aside from the recently departed Gail Ann, VERY few morning shows have partners. Do less with much less, apparently. So does that mean Dale on the WYRK Breakfast club, the rand buildings cash cow, should get a part timer at Lowes? Remains to be seen.

If the website is correct, and Ricky Jay is holding down afternoons, I dont recall him being a production maven. So dont know if Roxs theory has weight to it. RJ's worked both studios on the floor. Value, apparently.

The cutover to Delilah is easy like sunday morning, so live bodies just before that just need to be close and make the switch.
Yes, I've heard Friday @ 7p for 'the hap, hap, happiest Christmas' music to be cutover.

Sad, Bob's got real talent and REAL life experience. The strange thing with these recent changes is that they are not landing somewhere else.

Talked to Bob and told him I would post this if he didn't mind. He said go ahead.....he told me he was on vacation until the 12th of Nov, came back on Wednesday and was listening to a coupla messages on the voicemail there was one from Joe Chille, "come see me before you go on", If you know anything about radio "firings" those words are the "kiss of death", well come to find out the "we're going in another direction", has been replaced with " your position has been eliminated", he said he just busted out laughing and asked to be able to say goodbye to those in the building and clean out his desk. He said Joe did that for him he wasn't escorted out of the building like a common criminal......They musta changed that door code by now. He also said his 9 years with CBS/INFINITY/VIACOM/REGENT in the Rand building was a pretty good run....he will miss all his friends and associates. We just heard Katie Benson the promotions director for JYE was let go a day later. We wish her well. Bob can be reached at 716-923-5698 or online at [email protected]

Ah, the old "fire the guy who's on vacation" gambit. It's not the first time THAT'S happened. OTOH, why's he on vacation in the middle of the Fall book?

Good Luck, Bob. I'm sure that the severance package will tide you over, right? Maybe Wease in Rochester can use you as staff announcer. He could probably match 'JYE's salary with what he spends on poker.

A bit of an observation from an oldtimer.

I was hired at WEBR in May of 1970. Six weeks later, I contracted pneumonia and was out for a month. The station not only paid me but kept my spot open till I returned and could resume my air shift. This was during the era when the station was owned by the Courier Express. Obviously, this would never happen today.

I had the privelege of working in the business at a time when decency still exsisted.

I know now, after reading this boards posts, that I made the right decision to pursue other interests and leave broadcasting business when I did.

That sent chills down my spine. ;)

I believe one of my terminations was "could you come in a hour early today?" for no apparent reason. You just know...................
