BOB GOODING, FORMER WFAA NEWS ANCHOR, GONE AT 76

I know it's a TV item, but who ever goes to the TV page anymore?

Bob anchored at Ch 8 from 1961-79. He covered much the same ground alongside Murphy Martin and Don Harris, including WFAA-sponsored trips to Vietnam to seek out the status of POWs/MIAs on behalf of their worried wives. Bob had been sickly for several years, and had been fighting cancer for the last few.

He also worked for Ch 27 in the early 1980s, and KAND in Corsicana. He also taught journalism in Navarro County during that era, but relocated to the Tyler area several years back.

Channel 39 in the late '70's (Early '80?) did a news break during the programmes. I think I have Bob Gooding doing one of them During a break in Star Trek. Used to rotate him and some middle aged woman as well.

I think he moved to Tyler because of some business interest or because David Wade made his base there as well.

I was surprised that Channel 8 kept reporting his signature signoff as "better tomorrow's"....actually it was "Good Night, better tomorrow". Not a big deal, but you'd think they'd know...then again, who is there who actually worked with Bob? Exactly.
Bob was a class act, a steady hand at the anchor desk. When I was a kid, we watched Channel 8 every night long before they had ratings. Never met him, wish I had.

ACTUALLY...there are still a few left that did, mostly programming, production and engineering types...As for anchors/on-air, Brad Watson was there just a few months before Bob left, but Watson was in the FW Bureau then. George Riba was there then as well.

Funeral arrangements have been set for this Saturday at 1:30PM in Tyler at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home.
