Bob Grant Back to WABC for 3rd go-round

As you probably know, Bob Grant is headed back to WABC, hosting Sunday afternoons from noon to 2 p.m. starting this weekend. I interviewed program director Laurie Cantillo about what it means to have Grant with her station again.

She said, part of "New York Weekend," other new, local hosts will be announced in the future.

Maybe "third time's a CHARM" ;) Kinda reminds me the days of "Billy-ball" when Steinbrenner fired the many-times-over-fired Billy Martin, many times over. Sounds a little redundant, doesn't it? ;) Only in New York!

Also it appears that Bob (& other Sunday hosts) won't be "bumped" for N.Y. Jets NFL Football broadcasts, which had been simulcast on WABC 770 AM along with WEPN (1050 ESPN Radio) since ESPN Radio gained the radio rights a few years ago. According to the Sports Schedule webpage on www.wabcradio.com, at least for September the Jets will be airing only on WEPN 1050 AM. Note that the Sept 27th game has been moved up to 1pm from 4:15pm due to the Yom Kippur observance beginning at sundown that evening.

That would imply, to me, at least, that WABC is no longer simulcasting Jets games with WEPN. Note that WEPN recently added additional power, as well as a couple of regional repeaters. If WABC isn't airing Jets games for the month of September, it would make no sense to carry them for the remainder of the year. Either you are an affiliate, or you aren't.

If anything, this should serve as evidence that WABC isn't carrying Jets football this year: Here is WABC's Jets page, promoting the fact that they are "the New Home of Brett Favre and the NY Jets!"

I didn't think his first show was good. He shouldn't have on a guest if he's only on once a week, and he had low energy. I don't know why he plays a song either.
