Bob Grant Show Screw up

No offense to your friend, but...do you really consider this "breaking news"? Whenever a new US president is elected, foreign governments always pile on almost immediately with both congratulations and expectations regarding how the new administration will address their particular concern(s).

That China raised the Taiwan issue so soon was especially not unexpected. Considering how important it is to them, how big a trading partner (creditor) they are to us, and how compliant the Bush administration was for the past 8 years ( http://www.chinapost.com.tw/international/americas/2008/08/05/168607/Bush-burnishes.htm ), I don't think anyone would consider China's statement after the election anything other than long-considered and expected. I personally see the screener as having been justified in clearing the line for something more newsworthy.

Thanks for the link. I am a long time listener to the Bob Grant show going back to when he was on 570 AM WMCA. Sometimes a call gets dropped, even a call in guest. I also hear pranks get though sometimes. Makes for good radio though as the program seems less heavily screened than others. Poor Bob must be getting heartburn with the Obama victory, as are many on WABC.
As for the Taiwan issue, I can tell you first hand that the Chinese government has used money and corporate influences to effectively overthrow and take over the elected Taiwanese presidency. (Sound familiar?) Recent eyewitness reports indicate that unarmed student protesters have been beat up by police, some have been detained and whereabouts unknown. A music store was raided by police for playing Taiwan ethnic music and persons flying the national Taiwan flag have been arrested while it's allowed to fly the flag of China. Students are at this very moment holding a sit in strike outside the presidents headquarters in protest of these recent events and acts of police brutality. Like you said, the American media cares not about these events. I would not have known myself unless I was told by someone, it just wasn't covered in any US news. http://freespeechintaiwan.wordpress.com/ http://blog.taiwan-guide.org/2008/11/student-protest-at-executive-yuan/
