Bob Grant To Exit WOR... Replacement?

Full story. The surprise announcement was broken by the New York Post. His final show will be January 13 of next year.

His show will be replaced by Rocco DiSpirito, which would likely leave at least one hour vacant in middays. Since the new Rocco deal is based on "money" it's unlikely Hamburg will be out, since her show, like most on the station, bill well despite ratings.

(Soapbox) Enough already... You're a 50,000 watt station entrenched in radio history. Get some real local talent and/or syndicated fare like Glenn Beck and end it, already. (Off soapbox)<P ID="signature">______________

Yes, the Rocco deal will certainly not do well amongst most listeners against Sean Hannity, further proving my point that there is ONE political talk station in market #1.

When I saw the announcement, I figured Rocco is only good for one hour, so bring in Beck 9-11, Hamburg 11-1, Joy Browne stays live 1-3, O'Reilly (if you must) 3-5, and Rocco 5-6. If they could convince Savage to talk more about meatballs, they'd have a nice culinary block from 5-9. Then they could move Dr. Hoffman to 9pm and spend an hour dealing with your indigestion after you've had all that great food.

Food talk followed by Michael Savage could = vomiting. In all seriousness, though, that would be an odd segue.

Food talk? Kind of like what WRKO in Boston (formerly a sister station
of WOR in the RKO-General days) is doing with a new show called "Taste of
Boston Tonight". How to pick the best steak...where to dine, etc.

I wish they would move Joey Reynolds to afternoon drive... I heard him talking about it last night, and he made reference to it several times. Say what you want to about him, but I think he is brilliant.

Joey was clearly at his best on the now-defunct WOR-only hour of his overnight talk show. However, his overnight show is syndicated on a couple dozen stations (including 1520 WWKB in Buffalo) and I doubt there would be any interest in continuing this syndication if he moves to afternoons on WOR.

If WOR was a real station, they would dump the syndication effort that mainly places his show on unlistened to stations and keep him only as a local show.

Their already high numbers in the 82-99 demographic would double!

If Joey's late-night talk show hits the can and he moves to afternoons on WOR, maybe he can still voice-track a DJ shift on KB-1520 in Buffalo. That's probably the one station, besides WOR itself, where he has any kind of following.
