Bob Grant vs. the rest

I just read a very interesting thread started on the NY Radio messageboard regarding the difference between Bob Grant (who has recently returned to WABC) and all the other talkers whose names we all know:

The difference, according to the writer, is genuineness. That really hits the nail on the head. SO many *celebrated* talkers like Limbaugh, Hannity, etc. are all about their agendas and party lines, while Grant sounds.....real, not contrived. You get the feeling Bob's a human being with deep-rooted opinions and beliefs, not a political operative.

If this format had more hosts who came across like that, it would have even broader appeal, instead of the polarized club it has become.

If FM talk is to ever work, it should be staffed with a bunch of interesting and vibrant individuals who have solid opinions, not the wacky morning-show types that have typically been given FM talk opportunities.

Grant is one guy who, like his mentor Joe Pyne, knows how to entertain by getting a rise out of people (among the current crop of squawkers, only Stern and Michael Savage are even in the same league - and Savage only partly). His return to the New York dial is certainly welcome (though it just makes the nobodies around him all the more unlistenable by comparison)... ;D

Did Grant ever apologize for his comment on Ron Brown?

A lot of his listeners that day actually thought his comments were funny?

Just wondering

I know where you are trying to go, but I'll just answer the question... He did apologize for that statement. He also publicly acknowledged that he should not have said it.

Bob Grant is light years ahead of this current crop of homogenized talkers who have been groomed by non-inventive "safe" programmers who have released these hacks to the syndicated world.
