Bob Hamilton's OLDIES Station?

N

Guest
With so few Oldies stations on the dial, how does WMXJ sound? Are they still locked on 50's and 60's as the core?

Majic in the past few months has gone the route of many oldies of turning away from 50's music in favor of adding a lot more 70's. They have the same jock lineup that they've had for many years except for eric brandon who retired from the station and in his place is Vance Phillips.

Majic doesn't really change too much but it's not a bad oldies station for the market.

Eric has certainly not "retired." He's still there doing the Majic Cafe in middays. Vance is the evening jock. You may have heard Vance filling for Eric sometime.

Bob is one of the most respected oldies programmers out there. The station is VERY good, and we're lucky to have him here in South Florida!

My mistake i mean the tall Italian, Tom caniniti. Thank you for correcting me

I wish. They cut out most of pre-65 a few years ago.

Bob is a programming genius, and he has been blessed with some great talent. They keep a 'KHJ' sound with the custom jingles, and use very heavy imaging by Bobby Ocean. Only if K-EARTH 101 in L.A. where Bob came from could sound this good?.

I participate mainly in the North Florida board having moved to Jacksonville almost 10 years ago from S Fla.

Thank goodness for streaming. I currently listen to WMXJ more during the week than I do my own local so-called oldies station. Majic is so much better! Count your blessings South Florida. There are many markets where music from the 60s has virtually disappeared and/or adult stations are automated/voice-tracked most of the time. It's refreshing to see the talent given time to inject personality into the programming.

I know many of you would love to hear more 50s/early 60s and personally I love that time musically too. However, the life blood of any station is attracting advertsing. Majic continues to do a great job in this end but they had to update their sound. Many stations did it too radically. Majic has always been conservative playing safe songs and making subtle change over time. And the strategy has worked. Hey - they are still around doing their thing while so many of their peers have dissapeared. I wish them continued success.

By the way, the only problem with streaming is I often listen to Rick and Donna in the morning and I get so absorbed in the programming that I forget that the weather they talk about is some 300 miles away. There have been many mornings where I was thinking it was 65 degrees but it was really 45. LOL.

Yes. Despite my feelings about the playlist, WMXJ has
the best personalities -- and the best personality, too!
