Bob Has Changed

Well literally Bob has changed but the format is the same. It has been a year since Bob came to Austin(maybe short a week) and there is a new voice giving the Bob liners.

Does anyone know why Bob has changed and who the new Bob is?
______________

Yes I noticed that too. THe Tom Bodett Motel 6 guy is gone--not really sure who the new guy is. I wonder if he has appeared on Jack or other Bob stations around the country. Bob is actually one of the better stations in Austin. Good variety and very low repetition.

On the variety hits board, there was a post about Bob having used the services of Howard Cogan, the exclusive voice for Jack FMs. Is that the "Motel 6 guy" you're speaking of?
______________

I think so. He fit the station well, with that OH! heck who cares attitude.

The new guy is just an announcer.

I recognize the new voiceover guy... don't know the name, but his voice is used in liners at 97.5 KWTX in Waco-Temple and 97FM WABB in Mobile, and many other stations. He does sound 'somewhat' similar to the original voice.. but not quite the same effect.

Heard a rumor a couple of weeks ago that Bob had to quit using him because of an "exclusive market agreement conflict." Don't know what that means exactly but I would guess that his voice is being used or will be used on another station in the Austin market.

Any guesses?

This new Bob guy does nothing for me. I have not even smiled at his remarks yet. It had to be some legal reason to dump the real Bob. A dimension of Bob-FM is gone without the original Bob.

I often smiled or laughed at what the original Bob said. Maybe Bob should hire Tom "Motel 6" Bodet but Motel 6 may have him exclusively.

They can at least hire someone to imitate Bob. I hope they consider that.

I liked the "old" guy also. The new guy says the same stuff basically, but it doesn't come out the same. I can pick up BOB occassionally from the west side of Houston (where I live) and when I come into Austin. I noticed they changed the voice on the website too.

Do you think it's because the "old" guy is also the JACK-FM voiceover (Dallas, etc.)? Maybe there are licensing rights or something for JACK that won't allow him to be on BOB anymore. That's just my guess...otherwise they could re-use his old recordings. It's too bad. He was funny and laid back...moreso on BOB than what I've heard on JACK.

JB

PS-I liked the one where the female voice said "Bob's attorney told him he should run his station by the book" then the (former) male voice said "Bob wonders whatever happened to that shyster..."

Howard is under contract to Jack...and its owned by one company who has recently started to go after clones, etc....BTW Howard's voice is on the original Jack at www.jack.fm.....out of Vancouver, BC! They even have live DJs on it and I wish more Jacks would do it that way...

www.jack.fm (or simply jack.fm) will connect you the original JACK internet station, while www.jackfm.com is the site of the first on-air JACK station, CKLG-FM 96.9 in Vancouver.

Couldn't agree more, CW. I first checked out the Vancouver Jack online a little over two years ago and was really impressed. It kind of reminds me of the early days of the old KNUS Dallas, around 1972 with their Top 40/AOR hybrid format. Despite the CANCON rule CKLG has a great mix of music and the jocks are energetic without being overpowering or obtrusive. JACK FM in Dallas and Austin's BOB FM should have an overall presentation like that, instead of continuing the jukebox approach.
