Bob Kingsley out at "American Country Countdown"

After failed negotiations with ABC Radio Networks, Bob Kingsley is out and Kix Brooks is in as "American Country Countdown" host for the new year. Kingsley has been host since 1978. He plans on hosting a new, similar show and has asked his current affiliates to come aboard, and Kingsley says the response has been really good. However, ABC is playing hardball and requiring stations to give 90-days notice if they're planning to dump the current "ACC" in favor of Kingsley's new one.

Could affiliates run the Kix Brooks'-hosted show at like 2am in the morning(for the 90-day period), if they wish to run Kingsley's new show at a favorable time?
 
In all fairness, had I not clicked on the country board one day (which I almost never do) this would have been the first I'd have heard about it.

Many years ago sydicators started cracking down on the "tune in Sunday morning at 2" stuff.

They may be less likely to care in a small town of 8,000 than in LA though.

They may care, but they may not find out about it. Stations have been known to just "clear the spots" until the contract is through.

Somehow this doesnt surprise me...ABC RN could not WAIT for Kingsley to get out of the Dallas facility where his show was put together...Bob (and wife Ann who is the business side) and crew built a new studio out at Weatherford west of Fort Worth and moved there in late 98/early 99. Radio Disney took over ACC's old studio at Dallas after that. I suspected ABC would eventually wave bye bye to Bob...but then ABC RN has undergone some big changes also in the last 6-7 years...And may be going under more changes if Disney sells them off as rumored.

Hmm maybe....depends on the contract....I remember a Casey Kasem American Top40 promo that shocked even him:

"Be sure to join us each and every Saturday morning at two.......TWO?!?!?!"
You can imagine what his next word was and it wasnt about a dead dog either :) But that was back in the 70s..contracts are much more well watched over by lawyers nowadays.
