I remember listening to him growing up as a kid long before I knew what God was :) It was always a hoot to listen too (I admit), better than most Christian talk stuff out there. Ofcourse, the station in town that carried him oh so many years ago now is 24/7 Christian AC and "safe for the whole family" so they would never let someone like Bob on air again.. I also remember Bob used to have a half
hour tv show too that I remember seeing on one of the relgious stations.

If he was still on today, I dont know how many would listen too him.

Did the Corinthians ever write back?

I thought it was a good show. It started out very good - came on after Marlin Maddoux. I still remember when the Godliness of the members of Stryper caused him to change his position on CCM in mid-stream. As time went on, it became more and more focused on money. I think that the fire is what did it for me - and always in crisis mode, going to go off the air if there wasn't enough money, etc. That violated scriptural injunction to count the cost. Too much faith, not enough assessment. God, it would seem, is a strong advocate of good planning. If you are in constant crisis mode - let go of it, because its not in God's will.

I remember him having "conversations" with these "demons" that he was in the process of casting out of people.

Then my next thought..."Jesus never had drawn out conversations with them...at the most, he asked them their name and told them to get the heck out."

So (assuming it's the real deal) why do we need to do a three hour "Larry King Live" with them?

Bob: We have Mr. Legion here with us tonight. If you'd like to ask him...er...them a question, call 800-blah-blah. Please, no casting him out. That's rude. So, Legion...how do you decide which one of you chooses where to have lunch?

Legion: Rock, Paper, Scissors...

Bob: Fascinating. We'll be right back after these messages from World Championship wrestling.

The demons calling in on the 800 line was something else! I'm not sure how anyone thought there was any credibility to that. Then again, Marlin Maddoux and his far-right consipracy theories and seeming advocacy of theocracy..there's was a problem there too.
______________

I read an expose' in Cornerstone magazine about him. I was floored, then I saw the same thing on TV. He has been married a few times and has lots of horses and a big ranch. I then turned off listening to him but he was difficult to listen to for quite a few years.

GOOD OL' BOB!!!!!!!!! I can't believe he actually has a WEBsite! (boblarson.org)

When I first started working in Christian Radio, we used to carry him. The program was VERY interesting and educational. He would talk about Christian doctrine, and discuss cults and other erroneous teachings. He also occasionally talked about Satanism, Spiritual Warfare, and rock music. He had reasonable appeals for financial support.

Then things started to change... slowly. The financial appeals began to become more frequent and more "pushy". The topics of discussion began to narrow-down significantly. Towards the end, all he ever talked about was begging for money, rock music, begging for money, Satanism, and begging for money.

We were getting listener complaints about the program more and more often. Finally, our company dropped the show from all of our stations at once. When we did so, we took a HUGE financial hit that took literally YEARS to recover from. You see, one thing about GOOD OL' BOB!!!! was that when he bragged, "I PAY MY BILLS!!" he meant it. Every month, his check was the single biggest one we got. (He was the only broadcaster buying a whole hour of airtime every day.)

The following Monday after we had dropped him, I decided to listen to his satellite signal in the "cue" speaker. (Radiospeak: this is how we can listen to something that is not going over the air.) He went on an absolute TIRADE! For the whole hour, (between all of the begging for money spots) he ranted and raved in his typical bulging blood-vessel voice, about "Pablum-puking Christian radio" and how "certain stations all they care about is money!", etc. He spent the entire hour ripping our company apart, without ever naming us. He just referred to "pablum-puking Christian stations" who don't care about ministry, all they care about is their money, etc. It was absolutely vitriolic. It was also quite blatantly a bald-faced LIE! As I said, our company took a substantial financial LOSS by dropping him! Turns out later that it was the RIGHT decision!

His nationwide program disappeared completely from the satellite only a few weeks (maybe months) later. VERY soon after we had dropped him, all of the news of the scandals was emerging... questions about his finances, the "Ghost writer" who actually wrote "Dead Air" that was never credited or paid, etc. Essentially, all of these things vindicated us, and validated the decision to drop the program.

Like I said, when I first started at this station in 1987, Bob's program was EXCELLENT, educational, compelling radio. Gradually, it eroded into his drumbeating on those 3 subjects I mentioned above... Dollars, Demons, and rock music.

Willie...
