Wondering if others have noticed this. He is a great anchor and speaks very well. But I've noticed every time he says WBZ, as in..."coming up on WBZ", or anything that includes the calls, right before he says it, he takes a noticable pause and it's almost as if he has trouble saying the "W", or am I just over listening?

I noticed this years ago, (and I do mean years). He sounds like his teeth are stuck together. Also, did he used to be on KFWB at one time? Because I recall a news host over there also having a similar problem saying KF-W-B.

Maybe he has lockjaw?

It's worse over at WPRO. Dr Dan who does the animal show on Saturday mornings says "WPRO" like it's one syllable, and the traffic person says "W-P-R-AAAAAAAAAAAAAoh"

I think it's a leftover affectation from when he use to have to say:

"DOUBLEYOOO-EEE-EEEE-EYE"

Try saying that 60 times in one hour. ;-)

Just out of curiosity, how many Staffers at the Current CBS News Radio station, WBZ, are from the former CBS News Radio station, WEEI? I want the number, who are they, and when/if they work at WBZ.

Out of market, but there's a local news reader who's been with WFOY 1240 St. Augustine, FL, Al Brennan. The tag of his newscast goes, generally.... "That's the news, (very pregnant pause) Al Brennan, reporting."

It brings me back to a few newscasters from the AM Top 40 heyday that did the same thing. WAPE 690 Jacksonville, FL had one such fellow, that I learned from thier 40th Anniversary Reunion show. I also have heard it from one or two other stations in different parts of the nation, from listening to similarly-formatted station airchecks from the same era.
