Bob Miller sounds great on Fox Oldies 98.9 this week

Bob Miller is in for Van Ritshie this week. This man was born to play Oldies on the radio. WGNY is nuts not to give him a full-time gig.

Sure, he's just a visitor who has to deal with the same quirks of this less-than-fully-baked format, but he makes it sound better than it is. He always has. Miller has been handed lemons for decades and almost always makes lemonade.

Special message for the WGNY Music Director (if there is one): Nobody needs to hear Peter Paul and Mary's Blowin' In The Wind on the radio ever again. The fact that it showed up in morning drive on your radio station is an emblem of what's wrong with it. That is all.

I don't see why that song shouldn't be played on WGNY Oldies, I think its part of the Oldies being played...Does anyone know if WGNY has a direct url stream for media devices ? I have a Squeezebox Radio, WGNY currentlly doesn't support that device.

I agree with Fidel Ipac. Bob Miller sounded even better on FO than he did on 977. He was really at home in spite of the above mentioned lack of programming prowess.

The whole group has sounded amateurish and cheap for years now. Look no further than the website, not only did they merge all the stations into 1, it looks like an acid trip gone bad. They have decent ideas but some of the worst execution I've seen. Now they're trying to get into Dance/Electronic music and it sounds just as haphazard and confused as their Oldies and AC formats...what does Mancow have to do with Dance anyway? Bob Miller can't even put lipstick on the pig, I actually feel sorry for him.

I listened to it this morning and it sounds great, but it's good to hear Bob Miller filling in for Van Ritshie in Morning drive. Bob used to do his morning show on WCZX back in the mid 90's when it was "Oldies 97.7", "Oldies 97" and then "Mix 97" and finally at "Mix 97.7" until he left the station back in late February when "Fox Oldies" was launched at 98.9.

I hope Bob Miller does a great job with the station, but I hope he will do permanently someday on either afternoon drive to replace Buffalo Bob where he will end up doing his weekend shift in the future along with Suzy Garcia. She is doing her Sunday shift at Connecticut's "I95", but it's not gonna happen. It was originally rumored that she was going to be on "Fox Oldies", but not happening. I hope maybe the station will bring in Max Kinkel to do middays in the future. I love Max Kinkel, he was a great jock. I remember when he used to do the all-night show on CBS-FM back in the 80's and 90's, and then to WCZX and then to WJUX's "Jukebox Radio" and finally at WVOS-FM for a few months and that was it.

And finally, "Blowin' In the Wind" by Peter, Paul & Mary was a great song, but I've never listened to it, and it was a great song when it used to play on CBS-FM back in the 90's, but "Fox Oldies" never played this one.

Way to go, Bob, I hope he will do more soon on one of the fill-ins.

Miss Garcia also works for Cumulus stations in Westchester, NY.

Max Kinkel wore everyone out fast during his tenure at 97.7 back in the 90's. I don't argue his talent, but his diva attitude and demands will probably mean that he doesn't come back anytime soon.

Bob sounded like he was having fun, but doin' a rap about a particular subject then changing it mid sentence tells me he's losin' it. 98.9 needs to tighten up the delivery; one of my listeners called van "unlistenable". He does have good pipes though. Bob o is right on the money. Corsino doesn't sound like a radio guy. Manglass is VT'ed but not great. This is all my $.02...they did a 1.9 in the POK market but didn't place in the newburg market. I'd say right out of the box a 1.9 isn't too shabby as they signed on just before the spring book.....

oldies4ever ;D
