Bob Miller Suzy Garcia fired At WCZX

According to an article in the Poughkeepsie Journal Bob Miller and Suzy Garcia have been fired at Mix 97.7 WCZX after their shift on Friday. According to the article “Chuck Buford, regional vice president-northeast for Cumulus Broadcasting, which owns Mix 97.7, said Miller wasn't "the best fit" for the "freshened-up direction" the Atlanta-based company has planned for the station.” Is this a reaction to WGNY-FM fox oldies signing on today? For more here is the link:

I just tuned them in ;Liner says the new Mix 97.7 starts Thursday

Sad news. Suzy Garcia use to work on WPDH 101.5fm as Sue Turk before moving over to WSPK K104.7fm and left WSPK K104 when Pamal Broadcasting took over the station. Maybe WHUD 100.7 will pick her up for part time.

WCZX is changing direction right now, because they will adjust the format to a more more currents stuff like WLTW does. Remember WCZX had a history of that. It started as an oldies station as "97.7 CZX" playing nothing but the 50's through early 70's. I used to listened to it back in the 90's when I was at my Anderson School days. Beth Christy was on that station at the time before she joined "The Wolf". Rick McCaffery was good playing nothing but 50's and doo-wop music every Friday night. It was on at the time until 2002. And then "97.7 CZX" became "Oldies 97.7" and added a few more 70's songs around 1995, and then, by 1996 or 1997, they simulcasting it on 97.3 as "Oldies 97" by around 1999 or so, they added late 70's and even a bunch of 80's songs until 2001, and then in 2002, they added 90's music to become "Mix 97", by around 2004 or 2005, 97.3 dropped a simulcast to become "Mix 97.7" which we know today. By Thursday, they will have some new, they will add some currents from the 2000's or the 2010's. But this will make the station go down the drain.

If WCZX will try something this coming Thursday, they should have a classic dance format like "Mix 102.7" did and call it the slogan "Hudson Valley's Classic Dance Mix" and play some disco and freestyle music like the way it never sounded on the Hudson Valley before back in the "K104" and WBPM's former "B94" days.

Suzy Garcia was a salary dump for Cumulus to find extra funds for Mark Bolger. Only problem is they are both big names and the payoff is very bad publicity. Word on the street is that Suzy has already been picked up.

Remember, Bob Miller has been the "Morning Mayor" on that station for 17 years. He started back in 1994 when it was originally "Oldies 97.7" when it was an oldies station, but it went to other changes until 2002 to become "Mix 97" and then "Mix 97.7" until the very end. I hope Bob Miller will end up somewhere on the dial soon.

Now that Cumulus is soon going to take over the Citadel stations including the two New York City stations like WABC and WPLJ, this is going to happen sometime soon. Cumulus owns many stations including "The Wolf", WPDH, WKNY, WCZX, WRRV and WFAS, and it's going to take over Citadel. That would be great.

Her shift will now be satellite feed.

I don't know where she's headed next. She is going to be satellite feed from either Westwood One or Premiere where they did all of the syndicated programming. I'm not 100% sure. Cumulus is the company which will soon to be taking over all the stations that Citadel owns. I read that news about the merger between Cumulus and Citadel. Citadel is going down the drain, but I hope Cumulus will take over in the coming weeks or months if they can finalized the deal to sell off the Citadel outlets.

To get back to the discussion. I don't know Bob Miller will be heading next. I'm sure that he will be ending somewhere on the dial might be WHUD or something like that to make it available.

WCZX is going towards Hot AC, just like "Star 93.3" and "The Cat" at 98.5 does, and so does WPLJ. WBPM is still leaning towards classic rock than classic hits does with the station under Randy Turner. It is still going after WPDH which is another Cumulus owned station, and WPDH is still doing well than WBPM did in the Fall ratings book. WCZX is still doing great in the Fall book competing with WRNQ's "Lite-FM" and WHUD. "Mix" is going to shift a different direction to a more WPLJ-type format, dumping the 70's would be great. But I hope they should applaud "Lite-FM" and WHUD for doing so well after not listening to "Mix" since Bob & Suzy left the station as of yesterday. Friday was their last show together on the station after 17 years when it first started in mornings when it was on an oldies station until it flipped to AC years later.

Looked what CBS-FM did in New York City, which has nothing to do with Poughkeepsie, CBS-FM doesn't even reach Poughkeepsie tough, it plays the same amount of 70's music in the mix. And so does WLTW's "Lite-FM" did play the same amount of 70's music, but it's still on top of the PPM's in the January and February ratings periods.

I hope WCZX will be flipping to Hot AC this Thursday which will be a WPLJ type station. WPLJ is a Citadel station, and it will be taking over by Cumulus soon along with WABC if Citadel will get out of the way.

Not quite sure what the love for Cumulus is on this thread. The worst run company in America is about to become the second largest unless in the 11th hour the deal falls through.

Don't mistake this for love. I am just trying to analyze their workings using the facts.

They are banking on Bolger's top rated Fall '10 Arbitron to bring in big dollars. However, he's had some very inconsistent books over the past years which is no reflection on him or his efforts. He is one of the Hudson Valley's Signature Talents.

Arbitron in this market is unreliable to say the least. Just months ago Nielsen was being touted as the best new methodology. Now it is back to Arbitron. Shocking how Mark Bolger's numbers differed from the Nielsen ratings to Arbitron. Night and day. With any ratings company the numbers never will be consistent in this market.

The 'New Mix' may get a spike because it is new but if Cumulus operates the station the way they operate, it will falter just like it has in the past. Remember when Mix debuted years ago it was top rated as well.

Common knowledge Atlanta was sucking the life blood out of WCZX. Bob and Suzy's performance had nothing to do with 97.7's numbers. They hadn't had a major promotion to speak of in years. There was nothing invested in the brand. In fact quite the opposite. Maybe they should have invested in the brand first which would have yielded more positive results and community relations.

They are using Bob Miller and Suzy's Salaries to pay Mark's contract and will syndicate Suzy's shift so Atlanta will see an instant revenue stream which completely bypasses the Hudson Valley, nothing new here.

Bob Miller's name recognition alone makes him invaluable to any group, not to mention his talent. It won't be long before he is back. He is Synonymous with Hudson Valley Culture. Rumblings are that Suzy has been hired just in time for Spring Arbitron which is a no brainier. Suzy is a standout among Cumulus talent past and present with an exceptional ability to connect with listeners in person and on air. No one seems to know where she is yet. Hiring her is an outstanding strategic move showing a real connection to the community.

So to sum it up Cumulus takes one step forward and then two steps back with this move.

What did I miss?
Dx1ng asks is it possible That Mark Bulger is the new morning show promised new morning show starting this Thursday on WCZX. Next thing it’s posted as a fact that Bob and Suzie were let go to pay for Mark’s salary. Add to that the second ‘fact’ that midday ‘Suzie’s shift’ will be satellite fed. Where does this come from? Insiders can’t talk because of confidentiality agreements. I’ll admit the satellite feed for mid-day makes some financial sense, as the mega broadcasters look for ways to cut expenses, local service be damned. This would leave 97.7 local only during drive times. Right now WCZX is running jock less with a very light commercial load. Why would they give up that income? Back when Jack Hammer left WBPM for Cumulus owned, WKXP I wondered if that was just temporary, and they had bigger plans for him. Could that be on WCZX? True IF the new mix 97.7 is more like Star 93.3, Mark would be a better fit, but it is all just speculation, in the absence of fact. We will have to wait until Thursday.
Speaking of WKXP if the 12+ ratings were to be believed that station would be the one ripe for a change, not mid pack WCZX. I wonder why they haven’t done anything about “The Wolf’? Because the 12+ratings don’t mean anything either. Who really knows what is going on?

Thank you MHVRadiofan for the link I visited it. She's headed out of market. I also saw her mainpage. Take a look for yourself. Quite a response from the listeners for what it's worth, however, it wont matter to Cumulus.

Suzy Garcia returns to the Hudson Valley airwaves on Monday, March 21, hosting afternoon drive on Fox Oldies. She made the announcement herself when introduced at the Poughkeepsie Chamber of Commerce Breakfast this morning.

Good! So good luck to Suzy, I hope she will be on "Fox Oldies" at 98.9, but I hope maybe Bob Miller will end up somewhere at 98.9 someday. I haven't listen to Bob Miller back in the "Oldies 97.7" days, but I hope Bob Miller will do better on "Fox Oldies" if Van Ritschie will be co-hosting with Bob to do their new morning team called "Van & Bob in the Morning"

Van and Bob in the morning?? Surely you jest...Van's ego would never recover....BTW- on one of WGNY's jingles it says that Van is a member of the "legends of Broadcasting"...wtf is that?? Legend in his own mind maybe...sure do wish he wouldn't sing....

Is there a update where Suzy Garcia is at ? Is she on WGNY Oldies ?

No, Suzy Garcia is NOT on WGNY Oldies. But what I posted here on March 16 is true: She stood up that morning at the monthly Poughkeepsie Chamber of Commerce Breakfast, after being introduced and welcomed by the president of the chamber Charlie North, and made the announcement herself that she'd be starting afternoon drive on WGNY the following Monday.

Given the track record of the guy she was to about to start working for at WGNY, though, anything could have happened in the meantime!!

P-Town is right. The management there has a God awful reputation.
