Bob Mitchell: Talk Show Host

Ah, there are some things that Melroy and his deep pockets and spiffs can't overcome when you have to use your alleged brain.

why do yall pick on Bob? give me an educated reason

Sophisticated reason...hmmmmm. He's host-challenged. He can't carry an intelligent conversation with anyone about anything. How many "uhhhhhs" can he fit into one sentence? His laugh works on your nerves. It seems like their giving him a shift until the contract runs out, then cut-n-run after the first of the year. And giving him a home improvement show, please. It's like having Gajan do a sewing show.

Anyone that claims to be friends with Vince should be treated like they have the plague. :p :p :p

The storm put many of us in situations that we did not ask for...
Bob Mitchell had to adapt to being a talk show host...
He's may be not great, but he's still Better Than Bo!

That's not saying much! ;D :D

It had nothing to do with the storm. Mitchell doing talk is like a shoeshine boy being elevated to brain surgery. For the sake of their credibility I certainly hope it was all about letting a contract run its course, rather than endorsing Mitchell's embarrassing lack of intelligence as a talk show host. Thanks, pal.

Y'know, with the crap Entercom is forcing down the listeners' throats on WWL, 'RNO doesn't have to beat 'L. All 'RNO has to do is get a 3 or 4 (from WWL) and bring 'L down to a 5 or 6 after football season to let Diane Newman and the curious little Field kids know that crap is crap and enough is enough.

Our Thanks To Mitchell's Kids

As the only ones on this board who would have us believe he's a "talk show host" (HOHOHOOO), as opposed to a morning DJ of credibility (HAHAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA),

We'd like to thank his All-American family and kids, Lil' Lon and Psycho Robbie for taking up for him. He really is a fine man. And yes, pray for him. And send money now that Melroy is not around.

Re:Remember BOTH Bob Mitchell and Vince Marinello in YOUR PRAYERS PLEASE

Enough of the slammin', please.
Bob is going through some very rough times right now because Vinnie is locked up.
Bob and Vinnie are LIKE BLOOD BROTHERS-they've been together for over 30 years.
And I do not think that THE REAL BOB MITCHELL is a bad guy, in fact, he's a GREAT GUY.
I've had the pleasure of BOTH Bob and Vinnie's company many of times, and for sure IT WAS NOT BORING....
So please, no one is perfect, so if Bob Mitchell did something wrong, find it in your heart to forgive him, please. He's 110% ALL NEW ORLEANS, ALL LOUISIANA.......
Also, GIVE 'EM HELL, VINNIE MARINELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So guys and gals, REMEMBER BOTH BOB AND VINNIE IN YOUR PRAYERS, PLEASE.
They would do the same for you as well.........................

Bob and Vinnie together for 30 years? I don't think so. Bob and I were doing the KOOL morning show when they decided to bring Vinnie in because I was uncomfortable doing sports. I'm not a huge sports fan and didn't feel right talking about something I didn't know much about. I was asked what I thought about Vince coming onboard to do sports and I was all for it. That was around '95 or '96. I was shown the door in October '97 and they were a 2-man team from then until Vince was arrested.

Check your math. They may have known each other, or known of each other for 30 years but I was there when he was brought in.

Sounds like a few folks were shown the door because of him. I went back to Bob Walker's site and saw a picture of you, Ben Suddeth, & Blair. When were you three together & was it on KOOL? And whatever happened to Bob Walker? Was he another victim of the doorman, too? Sounds like he's a serious snake.

Blair and I were the original KOOL Wake Up club. Sudduth did our news and the late Darlene Gentner did our traffic. If I remember correctly we started in 1992, or was it 1993? I went on vacation and when I came back Mitchell was my partner and Blair was middays. I think that was in '94. It was a bit of a shock as Blair and I treated everything equally. We did remotes together, showed up at The Bengal together to mess with Walker when he was playing music there, did Zephyr's games together, lots of stuff. Blair and I both agree that it was the most fun we've ever had in our careers. With Mitchell it was made very clear that it was HIS show and I was just second banana. That was fine but a little hard to get used to, especially the separate remotes, but I sucked it up and played along. Getting fired was a complete blindside surprise. Completely out of left field.

Walker left after I did and after the station was sold. I think the new owners (Sinclair?) decided to boot him and Cherie the Oldies Sweetheart in an effort to sound more mainstream. I love out of town owners. They come in and think that whatever works in Iowa will work here. New Orleans is such a unique city and has such a rich musical heritage. How can you NOT have New Orleans personalities play New Orleans music on a New Orleans oldies station??? Go figure.

I got an email from Walker just last week. He is alive and well and out of radio. You'll remember he did afternoons on WTIX-FM post-Katrina and quit when Costello didn't want to give T-Ben more money. Blair walked out shortly after that. Blair is doing fine, I spoke with him last week as well. He's doing his mobile dj thing. Both Walker and Blair are truly nice guys, a rare commodity in this business. I'm not sure what Cherie is up to as I haven't spoken to her in years.

As for me, I'm looking for a job after the CC Biloxi budget cuts.

I wanna say I've heard Cherie the oldies sweetheart on KLRZ out of Larose. I think she is/was midday.. but the website for the ragin cajun is too outdated to find out for sure...

amen to that, don! ya know, besides me and bob walker, you are the ONLY other person that I know of, that will say those things and it be the total truth! i had the pleasure to meet walker (a real gentleman), a few years back. you'd swear he was born at a radio station! ;D lol i also worked briefly with blair and some of the others. he too, is a good man!

ya know, what's sad is that many people of new orleans don't know that because corporate radio has them blinded by forcing us with the mediocre and lack-luster programming they call entertainment. just tell everyone "it's fun to listen to us" and they'll buy it! i call it swill 'cause that's what most of it is.

take care and good luck with your future opportunities!

Bayou, you are obviously jealous of Mitchell's talent. Mitchell is what Marconi had in mind when he invented the radio.

There is indeed only one broadcaster better than Mitchell in radio history.
