Bob Pantano -- Raspier and Raspier

Bob Pantano's voice on his WOGL Saturday Night Dance Party has been getting raspier for a long time but in the last two months or so it has gotten a lot worse. The guy has become very difficult to listen to IMO. He either needs to take a long break from announcing to let his voice recover or he has health problems, maybe serious ones. I hope it's not the latter.

Has anyone else noticed or have inside info?

I've dropped in on his Saturday Night show from time to time (via webcast now that I'm in the Midwest) and have been shocked to hear how bad his voice has become over the past 3 years since I lived near Philly.

I hope it's nothing serious for him health-wise, but it doesn't sound good. Of course, I wish him the very best.....

Yeah I first noticed during his New Years eve broadcast. He has become very much like Jeff Kaye has, & as we all know ch6 finally gave up on Kaye.

Now a short rest can indeed help a sore throat, but when your voice has been bad & getting worse for 3+ months now, I tend to think its something health related effecting the throat. Did/does Pantano smoke? He could have throat cancer. I believe thats what Kaye suffered from.

Thanks for the posts, I will see if I can hear Bob on the internet this saturday to check this out. Even if he doesn't smoke he probably worked at a lot of clubs that allowed smoking over the years. Also I think shouting (not sure if he does that) can tear the vocal chords?

I listened to Bob P this weekend....I could not even recognize it was his voice. I never heard a DJ on radio with a voice in this condition. I wonder if it is the the station or Bob that wants to continue this. It is like listening to someone killing himself. I plan to send a sympathy card or get well card to Bob at WOGL in the US mail this week. Doesn't WOGL have health insurance for employees? I don't know what else to say other than I can not believe he is on the air with this situation. It looks like he is scheduled at clubs 5 days a week according to the WOGL site.

I've mentioned the same to my wife. It sometimes happends to me, recording six hours a week. Hope it isn't a health problem.

I'm actually listening to the show now on my way to see it live for the first time. Bob sounds on his game, and just like he did back in the day. Still the best dance party in town.
