Bob Rivers retiring from radio.

Not so amazing if you consider this place is all about the bees - wannabees, has-bee(ns) and never-will-bes. And everybody knows everything and everyone else is wrong. No wonder there's virtually none of us whose paychecks come from a radio company left here.

As for Mr. Rivers - I was lucky enough to work at Entercom while he was there and he IS (not was) the definition of a class act. You haven't heard the last of him.

Mike, you're an @$$.

The 'know it all' attitude of the "experts" is getting to be over the top. I for one do not work in your business...at one time I did want a career in radio, but greed and stock holder worship has ruined a once great medium. (I actually remember when radio was fun.) It's only about the dollars now. The "experts" may whine about what listeners say and put us down, but in the end if they didn't have us, there would be no radio business. So...who now is the wannabe???

I hear you on that one. I'm aware i'm not very popular on this forum (im sure Mr. Brewer and AHQ would love to see me stop leaving posts), but that doesn't stop me from putting my $0.02 into the matter. Its fine by me, I don't expect any respect from radio experts when I am only in my late teens and am trying to land my first real gig in the radio business. That being said, i'm sure they all remember what it was like to be standing in the shoes that I am in right now. Its a fight for that first job.

Now lets all leave this forum completely inactive so nobody complains about our discussions about signals!

Good luck on your career choice...I had the same dreams when I was your age...but that was many years ago. (I work in energy conservation, hence my screen name.)

Thank you very much. I plan to continue with college and find a more stable job, but radio is something that I always want to do, even if I have to do it for free.

Yes, it's sad to see Bob Rivers retire. But nobody here on this board made that call in spite of our alleged insensitivity. And I hate to tell AQH and Mike Brewer, but you can't constantly mock and ridicule people on this board and then expect to shame them. The very reason people talk about DXing all the time is because if we talk about anything else, you jump down our throats for it.

You may want to rethink your whole strategy if you want this board to be a lively, engaging place. You can start by giving everyone some breathing room.

Right on Bongwater! Seems to me, that every forum has someone who thinks they're the expert and likes to pull out there %&*$, and mark what they think is their territory and have a hissy fit if someone dare challenge them. The 'experts' on this forum only offer criticism of others and make fun of listeners.

Just remember, there are more opportunities in radio rather than being an announcer.

Bongwater you ROCK! We talk about DXing and stupid Jesuscasters taking over every 2nd channel and the new LPFMs that will kill our beloved Canadian signals because there is usually NOTHING going on in Seattle. This is not New York - nothing happens around every corner in every building.
Still, Bob Rivers will be missed. CC probably kicked him off and if they did, they should be ASHAMED for what they did. Replace him with a syndicated program - watch KJR go down to a 1.4.

I wonder if he really is retiring.

I recall when living in another mdsize market about 10 yrs ago a top 3 morning DJ announced his retirement and they did a special week long thing. It was reported elsewhere he was part of an ownership group who would buy some radio stations. Witching about 7/8 months later he was back on the radio.

I wonder how much of this is buying him out of the contract. I thought he owned the program and Spike, Joe et all worked for him.

I also wonder how much Pedro and Luciabo getting their green card mattered in his decision.

If he was thinking about retiring, why not try and find a replacement for him???

Why not try and find a replacement? We're talking "Cheap Channel" here! As for the green card issue, he said on the air that he was waiting for that to come through before he made the announcement. Apparently his intention is to come back in the form of a podcast.

I'm thinking "More music" less talk will be back on the table.. Premium Choice is way cheaper than paying someone local.

Wow, no comments on Bob's last day?? I was out of town last Friday, anyone here listen?

You're obviously new here.

Rivers' last day was more important to everyone here as an opportunity to bash Clear Channel than it was to celebrate his work.

The posts were more so of figuring out what "New" format KJR will have after Rivers.. Since we all already know Bob is a great broadcaster and we'll probably see him in podcasts or commercial spots in the future anyways, but figuring out the new format was the fun part of the posts.
