Bob Rivers Returns

Classic Bob Rivers show this morning on KJR-FM. Great to hear the team, great to hear other air-talent in Seattle welcome them back. The group is saving a school music program, interview great artists and talking about things Seattle. There is a reason this show has been number one for years. Forgot how good it sounds. A few technical issues, which you would expect. Noticed they referred to the station as 95.7 Greatest Hits of All Time not "Oldies" and noticed several more Classic hits cuts returning after Bob's show. More Steely Dan, Bob Segar and Steve Miller, with the occasional pop Oldies. It worked. Congratulations to Bob and 95.7 Greatest Hits of All Time.

Show will impact KISW, KZOK, KJAQ, KIRO-FM and other top male stations 25-54. KJR is leaning back to Classic Hits which will also impact some of these stations. Makes radio a bit more competitive on the male side of the equation. With Bob gone KISW and KZOK had it to themselves. KJR was a player 6+ with Oldies, but not even top 5 in the key 25-54 demos. This will change that.

Good to hear them again (for the hour I did while driving down to Everett this morning.) It's been a long six months.....

It was a great return and the addition of Jodi to the team should pay off, she has an awesome sense of humor and with her being an official part of the team I think she will feel more at ease to be her self....

On a side note it was also Jodi Brothers ex partner Marty Riemers one year anniversary of his Video Podcast Show and if you have not watched it you really should because he has done the music community in this city a huge service and introduced many of us to a wonderful selection of local artists performing live in Marty's moldy basement...

Would have been better if it were Robin and Maynard.
I second that. Love Bob & crew but still wish every day that I had the chance to share my ol' Robin & Maynard with my kids. Kills me to think they may never get to hear the best of Seattle radio.

Bob and company are sounding good, and a bit energized. I hope the honeymoon lasts awhile. Interesting to hear Bob dis a bit on his former employer this morning. Nothing hardcore, but it makes me think that the exit wasn't all hugs and handshakes..

Heard that as well. Something about "he and Charlie Sheen have something in common- we were suddenly blown out of CBS."

Agreed! Will someone please lure them back?

I hope the phase of "diss the last boss" and "kiss the new boss" doesn't last too much longer though. I fully get that they got an awesome deal and they're extremely appreciative but it's not the content I look for in the Bob Rivers Show.

big corporate radio done good here! namely clear channel. it was CC/KJR that stepped up to the plate and gave this team another run in seattle. according to bob on friday, this radio team had nothing in the works after the black flag fell at KZOK. what we did pick up from bob, is that CBS wanted to continue, but with less of his radio staff/team on the payroll. CC got the ball rolling and seattle radio listeners are back with their grade AAA talent morning show.

once again, 6AM tune ins to bob rivers show, will be a nice way to conclude my traffic filled night/early AM work day. yep, i need some laughs (or levity, as you college educated media sophisticates like to say). especially after 8 hours of high beam drivers, slow moving drunks, and an eye full of livin' large yuppies showcasing their BMW's and elexus's on my road ways.

like the fine cast of TV's M*A*S*H, that went on for many years, this radio team continues on with KJR. and for that we are thankful clear channel!

The Bob Rivers Show back on the air...

Marty Riemer back on the air...

Jody Brothers back on the air...

Dick's Drive In is expanding to Edmonds...

It's Baseball season again...

The world is starting to sound, look and feel like a little better place...

Could it also be that Clear Channel has potential syndication in the works for Bob & Co.? Clear Channel stations nationally tend to have a lot of syndicated mornings and they paid a lot of money to get Bob Rivers and crew - something they rarely do for anybody else locally. I imagine they'd want every penny's worth....

10-4 on that mr bongwater, and dont be suprised to see an expansion to one of clear channels XM outlets as well. some of CC's XM outlets currently house "the bob and tom show", and the "rick and bubba show" which is your typical ass clown laugher morning shows. you know the type. you tune in and all you hear is a sh*t load of caffeinated motor mouth laughing, at cheese ball jokes and comments, for and from the radio simple minded. the sooner CC moves bob rivers and company over to XM, the better. just think about all them OTR USA truckers who'll then have their ears on, and something real to laugh with.....

I must be in the minority of those who are not Bob Rivers fans. Frankly, I was disappointed that they were the new morning team. But then, with KJR FM clearly going back to the same old "Classic Hits" crap, I won't be listening much longer anyway.

I believe they even tried that when Bob was with KZOK/CBS. 1090 AM, during it's early 2000's "Extreme Talk" run also simulcasted Bob Rivers. There were a few other affiliates, none that I can remember. I guess CBS ended all that shortly after they flipped 1090 back to classic country for a few years before relaunching as KPTK. (Not sure of the actual timeline, but it was somewhere around here.)

But CBS stations also have a lot of locally based morning shows too. And since Bob Rivers is internationally known (Triple J in Australia played some of their Twisted Christmas tunes last December. The jock also mentioned Bob was the "morning DJ" at a radio station in Seattle called KZOK "K-Zed-O-K", unbeknownst that Bob had left the station in October.) and there really wasn't a better way to promote Bob's "Twisted Tunes" and his radio show than with decent syndication. Clear Channel not only has the finances, the stations and the will, it also has what it takes to take Bob Rivers & Co. to even higher recognition (billboards, concert promotion tie-ins. Hell, Spike & The Impalers could even get a 1/8th way decent record conglomerate contract, etc.) A box set of 180 gram virgin vinyl, audiophile quality LPs of all of Bob's Twisted Tunes is LONG overdue anyway.......(Wishful thinking, but here in the MODERN world, it COULD happen.......)

There's a strength in numbers. And that's probably the second best reason of all to sign Bob Rivers up for Clear Channel. Now.

But most importantly, ANYONE would choose Bob Rivers any day over Rick Dees.

I'm not particularly a fan of Clear Channel. Or any form of corporate radio in general. But this is one of those RARE moments when they made a decision that actually made SENSE........

On the other paw, they don't HAVE be syndicated. They could just be still a Seattle-based, Seattle oriented, morning radio program and we'd all still love Bob Rivers' show.

Just glad he's back......
