Bob Shannon has great class

There is a proper way to criticize the decision of a radio personality. You do not have to call Bob Shannon a moron if you disapprove of his playing a Christmas song in May. Bob Shannon has been an asset to WCBS-FM and New York radio since the mid 1980s. He certainly knows the music of his genre and communicates well with his listeners through his web site. For 2 years he moderated the Behind the Hits Board. On a personal note, he announced the birth of my son on the air in 1988. The best decision that Brian Thomas made was to hire Bob back when Jack hit the road last July.

I completely agree that Bob Shannon is excellent. That's why I prefaced my comments with the acknowledgment that he's one of my favorite DJ's. I just thought it was worth noting the seemingly illogical decision to broadcast a Christmas song when said holiday is months away. Imagine someone unaware that CBS was paying tribute to Sinatra and just randomly turning the station on to the Christmas song. The person would start scratching their head and turn to another station. Under those circumstances I think it's fair to criticize even one of my favorite DJ's for making an incomprehensible choice. Trust me if that had been done by either Ron Parker or some DJ on another station like say Helen Little on Lite I would have been far more critical and harsher in my wording than moron.

LIradifan226 - the title of your post was very derogatory. It should have been retitled should WCBS-FM have played a Frank Sinatra Christmas song in May? This may have been a decision by Music Director Jeff Mazzei, or Program Director Brian Thomas.

people don't click through CBS FM looking for hits a la Z, Hot, etc;
with features like the alternate versions, turntable tuesday, forgotten vinyl classics, and themed overviews, CBS FM listeners know that there's more going on at the astation than a power rotation of 25 tracks over and over

It was not illogical to play that Sinatra Christmas song on that day nor does it make anyone (least of all Bob) a moron. He set it up perfectly. It's one of the things that set CBS-FM apart from the other stations. It showed the creativity and personality that we all missed during the Jack years.

It would be my guess that a station of the scope and reach of WCBS-FM would not have the jock picking the songs. It was proabably what came up on the computer.
