Bob Shannon is a moron.

Don't get me wrong, he's still one of my favorite DJ's, it's just today I'm astounded at his absurdity. He's paying tribute to Frank Sinatra today and what song does he play? One of the songs he played is Sinatra's version of " Have yourself a merry little Christmas." Give me a break. Playing a Christmas song months out of season is beyond garbage. Ridiculous.

if it's part of a tribute to his recorded body of work, it makes perfect sense to me,,it is a track highly associated with him,and most of us know that it isn't actually Christmas(until LITE switchs to their forthcoming "Christmas Every Day" format, which is still hush hush

I would never consider Shannon to be a moron, but I agree with the OP ... XMAS music anytime outside of December just sounds silly. With the huge and deep catalog of playable Sinatra songs why that one? That song doesn't even come to mind when I think of classic XMAS music.

CBS FM used to play a Christmas song whenever the temperature crossed 101 degrees in New York. So far, we haven't had any days over 101 degrees since last July.

Hmmmm heard the weather forcast this morning for the LA area... gonna get to around 100 by tomorrow afternoon. The whole west coast is affected I heard Portland is expecting high 80s and Seattle around 80.

No need for name calling Bob is a pro. I wouldn't have played a Sinatra Christmas song but that was the call that was made.

I am sure many listeners found it amusing and even a bit refreshing. With all that is going on in this country and this world perhaps a little Christmas would do us good. It's amazing that anyone would even care about this.

It got a reaction out of you, didn't it?

THANK YOU! I echo your sentiments completely. Additionally, if you happened to hear around 2:00, Bob aired a caller who thanked him tremendously for playing the Christmas song; just after hearing it, she got a call about a job she was waiting for. It was a nice story, and if it made one person's day a little better, Bob and CBS-FM should be happy. I don't know why a short song would really annoy anyone. I didn't hear the song, and when Bob mentioned he played a Christmas song, I thought, "It would have been nice to hear that."

Oh well. To each his own.

What a horrible thing to do!!! I once heard him play "Monster Mash" on a day that wasn't Halloween, and get this.....
"Afternoon Delight" in the MORNING!!!! My God, he must be stopped!!!

??? Geez! Coming down kinda hard on him, aren't we? I knew him years ago, and I would never consider him a moron. He was actually rather helpful to me. Whenever you have a bad day, maybe you can just jog around the park awhile to relieve some of that stress. ;)

I stopped listening to CBS-FM when I heard them playing Night Moves by Bob Seger...at 8am!

And the biggest sin of all....."Monday, Monday" on a Tuesday Tuesday.
Might as well shut the lights, and wait for Jack.

Yeah, but can't we all agree that playing "Working for the Weekend" at 10 am on a Monday morning is just so wrong?  :'(

It could be worse, they could play Dolly Parton "Working 9 - 5" on a Saturday or Sunday! I shudder at the mere thought of it.

LIRadioFan: I gather you're a pessimist? I mean seriously..a Christmas song from one of the all time greats. Celebrating Sinatra because of his passing 10 years ago. What the hell is wrong with people? As for playing songs that aren't in the same season or day..so what? If we all want to be musically correct and put all those signs in their designated areas, that's fine but dull at the same time. I don't mind hearing Beach Boys in the winter, get me thinking of warmer places I'd rather be. Playing 'Summer in the City' in the winter does seem to be a bit off, but again reminds us of the warmth we wish we can have in the winter. Calling the Great Bob Shannon a moron is truly despicable. Anyone who claims to like him or say he's your favorite DJ would never go as far as to make a thread labeled like this and make it a feeding frenzy.

Quite shameful.
