Bob & Sheri out at 107.9 The Link

Stations straddling two markets tends not to work very well, revenue wise, so the operators of WOSF opted to make it a Charlotte station.
I know they're too close to WMAG Greensboro NC at 99.5, and they are probably too close to WWKT Florence SC at 99.3. It's possible they could increase power by moving west.
Not sure if WBT would be able to move west either with WSPA right there too...
2nd adjacent WRFX 99.7 is also a factor.
Maybe moving it closer north to the Gastonia area would make a big difference (directional antenna to the west and northeast from Crowders Mountain - Same location as WBAV) would really help.
Would love to see something happen, perhaps WXRY in Columbia could boost their signal if they do...

I haven't tried the other frequencies but even where I was today power line interference was really bad on 1110. Most of the time there was a listenable signal, but I'd hate to have a situation that bad all the time that close to Charlotte. Greensboro's WPTI might have worked, since it was Rush.
We are getting pretty close to the point where the over the air signal won't matter. More and more folks are using their smart devices to stream all sorts of stuff. Radio needs to figure out how to be important in that space or we will wind up like the newspaper.
In short order I was able to listen to WBT on four different devices in my home. My computer, my TeeVee using Roku, my Amazon Echo by saying 'Alexia play WBT Radio' and my phone. They are being wrong minded in my opinion by having a ridiculously long play in ad. TuneIn on my computer plays a play in ad as well. Took a couple of minutes (seemed longer) for BT to play.
After the play in ad I was able to listen in better than over the air quality. If I was listening using my phone in the car there would be no noise or picket fencing or interference. You could more than likely listen from one end of the state to the other without a dropout.
With Bob and Sheri it is even more of a convenience to listen online. You can listen to their podcast and hear a segment from the beginning. You can listen when ever you want. In your office at work. We don't think about folks who don't drive to work since we are so in to driving around here. I know folks in NY that download and listen to shows on the train on their way into work and back home. You can download the files at home and not use your mobile data.

I thought about listening this morning but forgot until it was almost over and even then I wouldn't have made it home in time. I have a portable radio which may still work, but that would have only had value if I had remembered to take it with me.

I found this while looking for something else.
New branding Mix 107.9. This is what I thought they might do. Just move Matt and Ramona to the morning show and tweak the music format. Still a variation of Hot AC, but perhaps more variety hits. We shall see. But I am not sure why they needed to remove longtime hosts Bob and Sheri, as its seems like they would remain an ideal fit for the AC format. But I guess for the sake of ratings they wanted a change and Matt and Ramona seem a bit more diverse and upbeat, whereas Bob and Sheri are a bit more laid back and appeal more to just white women. I hope the music mix is a bit more upbeat and improved, but I still want to see Bob and Sheri on another Charlotte station. It is a bit ironic they are still on 70 stations nationwide but not their hometown flagship.
But Bob and Sheri had a nice sign off this morning, and thanked all their loyal listeners in Charlotte. Sheri said they understood the business decision as the new owners were moving in a different direction. Bob reminisced about his long history in the building, at WBT, WLNK, and WBTV. It was a bit bittersweet as he said he would no longer work in that building again. But hopefully they will allow him a guest appearance on WBT or at least come back for their big 100th anniversary celebration next year. Recently Bo Thompson has had guest hosts in the morning, including John Hancock and Chuck Boozer. Maybe they could invite Bob Lacey sometime.
Meanwhile I think the new midday host Drew Parham was a former popular host at 95.1 so it may be familiar to have him back on the air.
And the other idea of them moving urban programming from 92.7 or 105.3 over to 107.9 is apparently not yet coming to fruition, as they attempt to upgrade and improve the Hot AC format on 107.9. At least for now, time will tell. 105.3 has a decent signal, although not quite as good as 107.9. But 92.7 is just much weaker.
Someone dropped the ball. I used links from Wikipedia to get to WLNK to see if they had made the change on Friday but I didn't take the time to post here afterward. I get error messages when I try to use most of the old links, but fortunately one worked and I was able to get what I needed. I made the necessary changes in Wikipedia starting Friday but made more yesterday. One person decided Wikipedia needed the information that K-104.7 was the other Charlotte station that used to be "Mix". Actually, WNMX was "Mix" far longer but that's probably not information that is needed on Wikipedia. But the biggest mistake that person made was claiming K-104.7 was "soft" AC. That hasn't been true since my barber retired and the first barber I tried was playing it. That man was so rude I went somewhere else and I'm happy with this other barber.
I can post this here because we can compare WLNK to the competition. These are the last songs played on K-104.7. This is what someone who posted on Wikipedia calls "soft" AC? Well, it is on the soft end of mainstream.

But since 107.9 is remaining an AC format, I am not sure of the need to remove Bob and Sheri. Except Matt and Ramona are a bit more upbeat and may attract more of a younger demographic, if that's what they want. And they are making changes to help launch a ratings boost, but time will tell.
At my location in Spartanburg, I listen to iHeart station 102.5 the Lake, which is very similar to 102.9 the Lake. I also listen to 102.9, 103.3 Earth FM, and 107.9. I do not receive 104.7. I also have WSPA 98.9 programmed, along with 93.7, 95.1, and 96.1. But I don't listen to the Hit Music stations as much anymore.

I get the impression K-104.7 focuses on older music. Last time I was in a store that played it, a recorded voice referred to the 80s. That could have been what they were doing right then, though it wasn't lunch hour yet.
Bob is in his 70s. He should be on WHVN.
The Observer article mentioned the perfect music mix. That's WHVN for me. But that station has only been on the air seven months, after two years of no one playing that music after a co-owned station had kept the music around for ten years with fund-raisers. and it has already been sold. The new owner has Christian stations and one of them is west of Charlotte but probably needs help being heard in the east.
I looked again. There may have been three songs from the past decade out of about thirty that I looked at.
I may have been premature to say K-104.7 was on the soft side of mainstream AC because I saw "Fight for Your Right" by The Beastie Boys, but when they play songs like "True" by Spandau Ballet, it's tempting to call it soft. I'm still wondering where the person who added the information to Wikipedia got "soft" AC from.
I didn't know Bob and Sheri were on a classic hits station in Myrtle Beach.
agree, K 104.7 is not a soft AC, just sounds like a classic hits leaning station. I have listened to 107.9 and they are saying we play the best of the 90's, 2000's and today. Have heard the song "Deja Vu" by Olivia Rodrigo a couple of times on 107.9. Can see where people that like some newer songs would listen to 107.9.
I had never heard of "deja vu" from Olivia Rodrigo until tonight. Perhaps that is because I now spend most of my time on Sirius Channel 06/07/08 and avoid the FM Airwaves in general.
I had to research the "Deja Vu" song, personally not impressed if this is where pop music now is.
