I had the very sad duty of announcing the news this morning on WXXI, and I don't have many details beyond what was on our air and is on our website. It's hard to believe it's been almost four years since Bob's stroke took him off our airwaves. I miss his camaraderie at work - and even more, the constant presence that he used to be on the message boards.

We're doing a tribute show at noon today.

Many years ago, I was a semi-regular on the Usenet group rec.radio.broadcasting and handling the Buffalo/Toronto radio news. Bob was a true gentleman who knew his stuff inside and out on the boards. Sadly, I didn't get the chance to listen to his show.

Bob...rest in peace, and rest in power.

Very sad.

Bob and I used to be "sparring partners" in this group over a number of years; Bob was direct but respectful. He was an example of how people should engage with others with differing viewpoints: thought provoking, reasonable and intelligent.

I noticed that as well. Though more often than not I was on Bob's side of the political ledger, he treated all sides with respect. That's how it SHOULD be, but all too often today it is sadly lacking.

I always enjoyed reading Bob's posts. Although I usually didn't agree with him, I always felt he respected those who disagreed. And of course, he always acted in a civil manner.

He was only 63, far too young. RIP Bob.
