Bob Throndsen (RIP)

If theres any indication of how well respected Bob Throndsen was and still is in that newsroom, a decade after he retired, check out this Eric's Heroes looking back at his career. It's an 8 minute package from a primetime newscast.

I remember Bob as a reporter on KOMO as a kid back in the 80s and early 90s. I don't remember him as an anchor even though he was hired by KOMO to anchor with Ruth Walsh in 1978 but KOMO churned through anchors in the late 70s and early 80s. We were a KOMO family, but started moving over to KING about 1993 (absolute golden age of KING). Somewhere around that time, he moved off the air and into a management role.

Honestly, I'd forgotten about him. Like so many, he could have been anywhere, collecting a nice check putting out press releases as a public relations executive somewhere.

But he was still at KOMO and in the last 18 months or so before his retirement, he added KOMO-AM News Director to his title. Out of the blue, breaking news would happen and we'd get a live studio report from "KOMO News Radio News Director Bob Throndsen" during PM rush hour. A voice from KOMO's past, back on the air as he headed towards retirement.
