Bob and Tom to return via Ted - FM

Bob and Tom are coming back.

Two weeks after being dumped by WFJX (105.7 FM), the Indianapolis syndicated morning program The Bob & Tom Show will return to the Columbus airwaves on WTDA (103.9 FM), the "We play everything" station known as Ted-FM.

"It’s a good show, a nice addition to Ted-FM," said Mark Jividen, vice president and general manager.

The program will air from 6 to 10 a.m. Mondays through Saturdays beginning next week. Mark "the Shark" Howell and Kelly Quinn will provide local sports and news reports during breaks.

Ted-FM morning host Elaine Everett, who joined the station in June, will move to the afternoon.

I've gotta wonder if this was a big blunder on CC's part. B&T gets ratings, it was everything else on the Fox that wasn't working. Also, B&T are syndicated by a company owned by CC, you'd think they would have found a place to "park" them just for the numbers they do generate.

Ted-FM has been handed a great opportunity to rise above their lousy signal and expose a greater share of the audiance to the benefits of the format. I'd look for Billboards and maybe even some TV to announce the arrival of B&T to 103.9. They also have to use the promo slots within the show to hold listeners throughout the rest of the day. The only way they have to go is UP!

Nabco has billboards for the Grego show, Dispatch for WMNI and lots of broadcast tv for Ted. I saw a commercial on ABC6 the other day.

This is indeed great news. I just hope they upgrade the signal. I'm ok as I live in CBus, but as I travel just 15 miles out, the signal starts to suffer.

Even if they get their signal upgrade, it's still directional and have to protect the Class C2 104.1 down in Portsmouth, which means you will have lots of problems getting the station south of I-70 and into building in downtown Columbus. Bob and Tom ratings were decent, but those people didn't stay for the rest of the day on 105.7, just like Stern listeners on The Blitz, and people won't stay after B&T is off on Ted-FM either, and they are going to be paying a buttload for the show because you know The Fox got some kind of discount on the show since it was in-house which Ted-FM is not going to be getting.

Re: Bob & Tom....to Ted FM? It’s Official

I think the problem lies in the fact that advertisers won't shell out their dough to a station that doesn't go very far. At least the Fox went a distance...can TED afford the rate for such a weak signal?

I'm sure their idea of a signal upgrade would be to simply make it omni-directional. Not to try to upgrade to a class B. If it were at 100m and 6kw omni-directional, it would be almost exactly like 105.7 with more strength north like it already has.

Not at all a fan

I just do not get B&T.

I guess it's a Midwest thing. The laughing is beyond a crutch. I know it was originally to keep people from ripping off the funny people on the show (who certainly aren't B&T).

When I worked in New Orleans it failed miserably down there.

Good luck to Hal and North American! I hope it works out for you!

Re: Not at all a fan

could it get worse for them???? this is the best thing that could have happened to this station.

They must be doing something right with 150+ affiliates.

St. Louis appears to be their largest market. With Columbus & Indy after that.
The show must be pretty cheap. Most of the affiliates are smaller markets.

I'm not saying they're not successful. I'm saying I never got it.

I also don't get Limbaugh, TNN, or the 700 Club. Doesn't make them bad. Just not for me.

I worked for North American. I think they're a fine company. Run by very nice people. I hope they do well with B&T.

At least well enough to flank Grego enough to win. Are Wags & Eliot still there at Q??

To the contrary, B&T has a Top 50 and Top 100 market roster that is among the best for syndicated morning programs...probably exceeded only by Stern (until he moves to Sirius).

After St. Louis, their largest market would actually be Pittsburgh, followed by Cincinnati and Milwaukee. They're also in Charlotte, Nashville, West Palm Beach, Salt Lake City, Albuquerque, Louisville, Dayton, Toledo, Raleigh, Oklahoma City, Grand Rapids and some other Top 100 markets.<P ID="signature">______________
