Bob & Tom

96 Rock carried them for a while after TRG's got the ax (the first time). If I remember correctly, Atlanta was the biggest market they were in....and they were widely disliked here. "Here" meaning Atlanta....AND Radio-Info.com.

oh god all i can remember is the laughing. the never ever ending laughing. i'd rather stab my own hand with a knife than here that again.

Ah Bob and Tom. The kings of middle market radio. The sad part is they have over 100 affiliates and yet Bill Handel has more listeners on his ONE local station.

I am next week so I was just hedging my bet.

Wow, do I feel about six inches tall.

When Howard went satellite, they were the next best choice in South Florida. 'Course, it is South Florida, but still.....

Has anyone tried to carry them? What were the results?\
They came to town after The Regular Guys got fired for airing porn. Their impact was immediate and soon all of Atlanta was laughing uncontrollable for no reason. After their first full rating period, they had an astounding 60 rating with a 92 share. In fact, many stations went silent for the four hours whilst Robert and Thomas were on the air. I remember talking to several morning people who said they were happy to get more sleep since they didn't have to get up anymore.

After two years, Clear Channel management was billing about $30 million a year on 96Rock in AM drive alone. Then, in a bold move, Randall Bloomquist said that the Bob & Tom money train had pulled away. The Regular Guys came back and Atlanta hasn't been the same. In fact, the last time I talked to Rodney Ho, he said he still can't laugh without thinking about Bob & Tom.

For all the jokes (many deserved) about Bob & Tom aside, I'm pretty sure I recall correctly that the actual numbers on their final book were almost identical to what TRG posted in their final book.

Given all the hoohah over TRG since, that's probably the funniest thing of all.

Don't know what book your looking at, but that is not remotely true.

I remember looking at that in detail at the time, and I'm virtually certain that was indeed the case in at least number of demographic cells.

The catch may have been (it's been quite a while since I went through all that & I don't believe I've still got all that data loaded/available due to a pair of system crashes & some corrupt backup files since then -- oddly enough, I recovered the data for like the last 15 months of TRG before their first firing, just not everything in the period afterwards) that it was something like the last month of B&T that matched what TRG was doing. The only reason I remember that much is because I thought it rather funny that CC dumped them just as they appeared they might have been settling in, sort of par for the course over there.

I'm also pretty sure I posted about it here at the time, but I imagine those posts are gone with the changes here as well (can't remember off hand how far back the site is archived, but I'll go look just in case).
