Bob Trumpy, former NBC Sports commentator, departed at 80

Just heard that former NBC Sports commentator Bob Trumpy (he was that, among other things) is now departed at 80.

And here's a screenshot of him on the 1982 Orange Bowl, from DVD of that historic matchup between Clemson and Nebraska:

He was a heckuva tight end. In addition to the TV football work I think he hosted a local sports talk show in Cincy for a time.

Westwood One's Scott Graham also did a review of Trumpy's career during last night's half-time show. According to Scott Graham (the in-studio host during the games), Trumpy was part of Westwood One from 2007 until 2014. Mr. Graham said that Mr. Trumpy did do some color commentary during that period, but for the life of me, I don't recall ever hearing him on the network at that time.

According to his USA Today obituary, Trumpy retired from Westwood One in 2007, which would have put him at a normal retirement age. Boomer Esiason would have also been at Westwood One at the time, on the Monday night crew.
