Bob Walker & Sgt. T-Ben

It sure was fun listening to them two back together again. I listened yesterday to T-Ben's first day back on the air and it was great to hear.

When he came on for his first traffic report, he and Bob just could not stop laughing. It sure was like old times again. Keep it up gentleman! Ya-hoo!!! LMAO )

And a word to Steve G or whatever you go by at b97: dude chill wit 'dem dry jokes. Your jokes are nowhere near funny and the only person who's laughing is you. Their awful. Spare us!<P ID="signature">______________

Yeah your right- SPARE US the "fake" "un-funny" "lame-ass" t ben traffic reports- thats one of the problems with new orleans. people think something that worked 20 (or 200 if you listen to them) years ago can work today because it use to work. they are embarassing themselves on a station that has been an embarassment to the city for the last 10 years

Actually the show is great! It's fantastic to hear REAL radio again. The jokes were awesome, and you can tell these guys are having fun! Keep it coming guys.

You're right! What worked in the past is limp now. Look at:

Walton + Johnson - 25 years (numerous stations)
Bob DelGiorno - 25 years or so (WSMB & WWL)
Eddie Edwards - 15 years
Bob Mitchell - same act since 1965
Garland Robinette - reporting for 35 years
Bob Walker & T-Ben Boudreaux - 16 years
Howard Stern - 20+ years
Tommy Tucker - 20 years
Vince Marinello - 10 years

ON the other hand...juvenile prepubescents like Kidd KradDICK and Rod Ryan, the twins, and the temporary shows de jour on Diva, WRNO, and the rest of the forgettable crap on radio now.

Yes, we should get rid of them all and we'll look to you to come up with something new. Well, we're waiting to hear from you.

I think I'm gonna have to put my opinion in here now.... Bob Walker and T-Ben are some of radio's originals here in this city. You my friend, must not be from around here because you are coming off as one of those ignorant PD's from Ten Buck Two, Nowheresville! Know everything from the moment they arrive.

You know Walton & Johnson started here on WQUE (Q-93) before moving on to WEZB (B-97), where they became really popular. They are original and they still work! Now I don't approve of the show being fed to other cities and us getting them from Houston, but what can I do???

Walker & T-Ben's show might not be the greatest on earth, but it's different and a change from the same 'ol, same 'ol people like Kidd "****** Bag" Kraddic, etc. Don't get me started on them 'cause my what a show that is.... Funny how I can put on 97.1 and then immediately go to 102.5 in Baton Rouge and here the same exact thing, at the same exact moment. How boring that is. NO ORIGINALITY!!! They're not EVEN from here and they talk like they live down the street. A Kraddic promo on B-97 says "White Castle Burger will be back?!" Is it really true White Castle is from around here?! I think not! They sound like jack-asses saying that!

Again, I'm not bashing you or anyone else, but when you've worked in radio for quite a few years and then decide it's no longer enjoyable because corporations cut it to the bone, you'd understand where I'm coming from. I'm happily working in television now.

How 'bout this... I will say each city is different. If I were PD of a major station in this city for many years and then moved on, I couldn't program that station in the other city the way I did it here 'cause it's different; the citizens of that city are different. They like what they like.

Thanks a billion,

Sawtooth

Okay I'll take the bait:

You said: "You my friend, must not be from around here because you are coming off as one of those ignorant PD's from Ten Buck Two, Nowheresville!"

Born and raised in the 9th ward, I miss Schwegmenns, KB, McKenzies and all the other "old tyme" things New Orleans use to have.

"You know Walton & Johnson started here on WQUE (Q-93) before moving on to WEZB (B-97), where they became really popular. They are original and they still work!"

Yes I know they started here and they are popular. Original in the 80's- hell yeah!! have you listened to them lately? Original is hardly the word I would use- Plus they aren't really "local" anymore now are they?

""White Castle Burger will be back?!" Is it really true White Castle is from around here?"

Not sure about that but in my day, White Castle had about 20 locations in the metro area....think airline hwy in jefferson.

"Again, I'm not bashing you or anyone else, but when you've worked in radio for quite a few years and then decide it's no longer enjoyable because corporations cut it to the bone, you'd understand where I'm coming from. I'm happily working in television now."

I've been in radio bout 20 yrs now. Got away from corporations about 5 years ago so i am not promoting corporate radio as the savior....actually the opposite....but when local radio attempts to do local radio, how about actually making an effort to be GREAT instead of bringing back re-treads who were "original" when they started, not 25 years after the fact?

Im sure your a great guy sawtooth, but to accept mediocrity as "exciting" or "fantastic" just because they use to be great or they're a "local" option isn't the way I look at things....call it what it is and it's pure crap put out by a oldies fanatic on a pure crap station. Maybe they'll play "stairway to heaven" coming out of a "polka dot bikini" set....mmmm hmmmm thats yummy tix radio!!!!

Yup, if he was a true New Orleanian, he'd know we had 'da Royal Castles...

So, David Byrne Fan...

You grew up here and don't remember that it was Royal Castle and not White Castle? You're obviously a phony out-of-towner in 9th Ward clothing. And a washed-up, out of the business radio reject besides.

So, exactly what are you suggesting? That anyone on New Orleans radio who has a name and has been there, either continuously or off and on different stations for 10-15-20+ years, should be removed because they're no longer what they were in the past? New Orleans is a very traditional city and loves familiarity with the past. Familiar voices inspire hope in this city full of tormented souls. But then again, you know that being allegedly born and raised here. Don't you?

So what's your solution? Maybe you think radio is just waiting for you to come back and be new and original and save New Orleans radio from itself. Let us know who hires you.

And I bet you have a really identifiable name on the air, from your years of popularity, whoever you are. Please tell us who you are so we can give you the credibility from your successful career that we are giving these familiar names who are at least...doing something. How are you contributing, by the way?

Get over it and leave radio to the heavyweights and quit sucking sour grapes.

The cream rises to the top and stays there. Sh*t sinks. Go live up to your true calling and be a roadie for David Byrne.

Re: So, David Byrne Fan...

Hmmm, Im missed the white/royal, my bad.

The most interesting thing to me on these boards is when someone actually has a point (not saying you agree or disagree, cause your opinion on my thoughts is neither needed nor asked for) the majority of "posters" want to call some one washed up or a reject or whatever.

the discussion was a specific show/station. I did not say that EVERYONE that has been on for a long period are done or washed up. Just that station/show in particular.

A city full of tormented souls? Please give me a break. If everyone here is tormented (which im not thank goodness) then get out! If your tormented then go somewhere that may be less tormenting to you.

You do not know me and by the tone of your post you never will. If everyone who chooses to post on this board needs to have a resume attached to their screen name then I will be more than happy to supply mine. Until then I do not need to tell you anything about me, what station I currently work for (yeah uptown, I bet you listen everyday) or what I am contributing to the success of my radio group. I do not care about what you are doing currently or what you have done in the past.

The more I am on here the more it becomes a old mans club of skilled former radio peeps who wish the world could stand still so they could do radio like it use to be in the 50's. Blah to that playa!!!

What fun it is to read all these threads about New Orleans and what's good, or wrong, with radio in the city. Time to throw my two cents in.

I love how people bash others and have all the answers, while hiding behind an alias. It's great to see that because people have years of experience, they no longer belong on the air. So what! You don't like Walker & T-Ben, don't listen. You don't like DelGiorno, Vince Marinello or Garland...punch the button. Better yet, apply for their job. Don't like what Michael Costello plays on TIX-FM, buy our own station. I find it strange that the list of people's experience in one of the threads, are all Entercom employees. I worked for Entercom since day one and they have some good people there and ones who have no business there at all. Did they do me favor by firing me just before Katrina (or as it was put in corporate slang "we're terminating our relationship")? It's all about being politically correct. Probably, I sleep better at night. It's business.

All the corporate monkeys know exactly what's needed for New Orleans radio but nothing from the gut. Just sit down a hundred or so folks and let them pick the playlist. They got the clips from their research. Research sez...but you never "saw" the research, just quoted. Their research discovered that Frankie Ford didn't test well here. Believe that one or how about All These Things. Research sez play Joe Stampley instead of Art Neville. Makes sense, that's what they played in Shreveport. So why did we play Fats and not Pat Boone's Ain't That a Shame? What a waste of company money!

Weerd Wayne got it right, it's Royal Castle. There were only two I remember. One on St Charles Ave. near Carondelet and the other on Jefferson Hwy. not Airline. It was right next door to Bowl-a-Rama, across from Parr Gas and down the street from Hoppers, Oschner Hospital and the Sands nightclub. "White" never existed in New Orleans. Get the history straight.

This board is fun reading. Gives me something to do while I recover from a secord surgury from my motorcycle accident. Keep up the great posts and kudos to Weerd Wayne, Fatman Don Banks and Ray Fisher (sorry I don't remember you on TIX) for not hiding behind an alias with their comments! Don't they all suck cause they're "locals"? Not.

As my bike mechanic calls me,
Blair thru the Air
