Bobby Bones Mugged "New at 6"?

First off - getting robbed, mugged or assulted sucks.... but is this breaking news to lead the top of a television news cast?

As an aside, at what point as a personality does it become too much? He's had his home vandalized, been mugged, his car broken into (and oddly enough, it seems the only one at CC Austin having these issues onsite.) You don't hear of other syndicated personalities having these issues. It's not like he "puts himeself out there" with appearances, etc.

Just found it interesting it didn't get mentioned here, but led some local news casts.

It's more common than you think. Most people just don't publicize it much. I remember nearly 20 years ago when several of the jocks at KMOD in Tulsa had to have bodyguards at appearances and security personnel escort them to and from their cars. The old Granum/Infinity/CBS studios in Dallas at 7901 Carpenter had panic buttons in every studio (KOAI/KRBV/KHVN) and at the front desk.

So, what's happened to Bobby Bones, minus the mugging anyway, is, unfortunately, fairly common. Not knowing the details, I'd have to suspect the mugging was probably more of a crime of opportunity than anything else. When a criminal sees someone with a laptop walking through a parking lot alone at 4 AM, he's almost sure to think "easy target."

I, too, was kinda surprised it wasn't mentioned here sooner. In any event, the Clear Channel Austin studios are tucked back in a complex off South Congress with pretty much zero visibility from the main road and no other adjacent businesses that are open at that hour. The address is plastered all over their site. It's not like your typical studio located in a high-rise office building with round-the-clock security. Clearly they need to rethink the measures taken to safeguard their employees because next time the victim(s) might not escape with just a few bumps and bruises. Hope he heals quickly.
